MR New Frequent Traveller Partner Redemption Rates

You guys sure have plenty of time to go for holidays :) I'm struggling here :)

If only this had come in before the changes to AA's measure of the million miles. Sob!

I think the transfer rates are permament but the various bonuses are for March only.

I called MR today and the agent (who sounded very knowledgeable) confirmed that the 1:1 rate is permanent, while the bonuses are only in March.

Finally, one who could read! :) I moved 200k to SPG, just in case, as it's a 50% increase on previous offer and will likely move 540k to TG, this month, for 4 x F to BKK, as it will be much more pleasant to redeem online than through the dreadful Krisflyer call centre, when using SQ points for TG.

Assuming I've understood their website correctly, PER-AKL return in J for 23,077 MR points is quite good (via Virgin Atlantic Flying Club with 30% bonus).

Edit: Oh, there is a separate thread on that one.

While 500 SPG points for 1000 MR is still not very good, it gives the possibility to transfer points to almost any airline at a rate of 40000 MR = 25000 miles. That's 1.6 points/mile or almost 1 mile per dollar, provided the earn rate is 1.5 points per dollar.
With the new 50% bonus on hotel transfer to US Air this could mean 40000MR = 37500 US Air points. IMO US Air points can be very valuable, e.g. 120K to Europe for J is much better than offered by QF or SQ.

The bonus only applies to the first transfer in though. Can you transfer 40k from SPG and get the 2x 5000 bonus or must you do it as 2x 20,000 (+5000 bonus) lots, in which case you'd only get bonus on the 25,000? I'm guessing that's the case as 50% on that brings it up to 37,500.

Hmmm... I don't know what to make of all this because an e-mail I got from Cathay pointed me here:

American Express
Enjoy bonus miles on American Express Membership Rewards points conversions in Australia!

Throughout March 2012, American Express Cardmembers in Australia who convert their Membership Rewards points to Asia Miles will enjoy a special rate of 1 point per mile! Plus, if you’re not yet an Asia Miles member, enrol now and convert points to miles within the promotion period to earn 1,000 bonus miles!

Promotion period:
1–31 March 2012
and I think the American Express website is pretty clear that the offer is, sadly, for March 2012 only:

American Express | Membership Rewards

The good news is that the new SPG transfer rate of 500SPG=1,000MR is definitely a permanent change from 1 March 2012.

According to SPG site you can transfer up to 74999 points in one transaction (+15K bonus) so do as one transaction. 60K is the sweet point though I think.

To be clear, transferring 40K SPG will result in 50K miles.

Don't transfer 79,999 as only 15K bonus points are earned. Transfer 60K & 20K SPG (or 40/40) to get the full 20K bonus fort 100K miles.

With the 50% uplift that US Dividend Miles is giving though, 79,999 works out better unless I'm wrong with my calculations?

79,999 -> 94,999 (so that's the 15k bonus) which then becomes 142498 US Dividend Miles.
vs
60,000 -> 75,000 which then becomes 112,500, plus another 20,000(+5,000) which then becomes 137500 US Dividend Miles.

Close to 100 posts and still no clarification.

To me it appears like there are new transfer rates for some airline partners and there are also bonus points on offer to some partners for the month of March.

I believe this webpage is fairly clear.

Decisions, decisions but I may wait a little bit longer to use my hard earned Amex MR points....

OK, that's odd. I transferred 158,500 points from MR to SPG and only half of them have credited. I wonder if the other half will credit tomorrow?

SPG said:
79250 Starpoints awarded on 03/14/2012

Oh boy. Duh. That's fine, transfers at 2:1 ... move along, nothing to see here

Transfer is done!

Starpoints to transfer: 79999
Bonus Starpoints: 15000
Conversion ratio: 1:1
Miles to be received: 94999

Now to wait anxiously to see whether US DM will give the bonus in the timeframe the T&C say.

That's correct isn't it? 1 MR = 0.5 SPG

How long does it normally take to add an SPG account to MR?

I added one a few days ago and it still says "Pending"...

FYI over the past couple of days I've asked two separate Amex operators about redemption rates, and both told me 4:3 for TG, CX and MH based on checking their internal documentation. Doesn't tell us anything definitive, but suggests the current 1:1 redemption rates for these partners are in fact a special. Hope I'm wrong though!
