NBN Discussion

True, but when you're advertising 'high speed internet', it would be nice to have something that is better than smoke signals. It used to be be almost 100 meg/sec. Uploads are still fast, so it's an intentional restriction. The other Marriotts that I stay at all have quite reasonable (>15 meg/sec) connections.

I know some people who rent out rooms and apartments on the Adriatic coast and they often regal me with stories of guests who seemed intent downloading at the maximum rate for their entire stay.
The guests must be Aussies trying to sync everything to the cloud as our internet performance with or without NBN is worse than Kenya.

Almost a bait to raise expectations and when you arrive you find it’s not quite to your expectations but oh there is a premium pay to use option.

It’s so that some will pay for the “premium” version - essentially pay to turn off the restriction

It should start getting better here in OZ soon with hopefully FTTC becoming the minimum for most homes and the city urban areas now getting the NBN after the country areas.

Australian visitors are getting a bad reputation there for other things like public drunkenness. Weirdly after Brit Lapthorne's death it for some brought all the worst bogans that visit Bali to visit that corner of the world.

They have racial stereotypes for most European nations and oh the Germans leaving their towel at beach/pool to reserve a spot is very true.

Turnbull angry at comparisons of our net to Kenya's.

Asked about recent reports that Australia has slumped several places on a global ladder of internet speeds, behind Kenya, Mr Turnbull dismissed the statistics as "complete rubbish".

The reports, based on Akamai's most recent state of the internet findings, put Australia 50th in the world for average connection speed, below other Western nations like the US (10), Canada (20) and New Zealand (27), and with less than half the average speed of world leader South Korea.

Mr Turnbull said the choice to use a range of different technologies for the network, in contrast to the fibre-heavy plan favoured by the ALP, had meant the rollout was the "fastest, biggest" in Australia's history, and that NBN Co was "doing an extraordinary job".

As for the issues with botched installations and sub-par speeds, Mr Turnbull said the government is working with NBN Co, and the ACCC is working with telcos, to resolve them.

NBN has just arrived in our 'burb. About 6 weeks ago I changed from my old off-contract contact ($72 a month for 50 Gig and phone) to a new 2 year ADSL contract ($60 a month for phone and unlimited download) as I wanted to stream some movies.

Everything good until last week when d/l dropped intermittently to <1Mbps. Had plenty of data on vodafone mobile so tethered it and got 35Mbps.

Yesterday and today home wifi back to 9.7Mbps.

Have no idea what speed NBN would be.

Presuming FTTN in your area?
The install of this can disrupt existing ADSL connections.

Your current speed is below the minimum NBN speed of 12/1 (12 down, 1 up).

If on FTTN, 25/5 will generally be achievable but whether you can get (and pay for) 100/40 will depend on how close you are to the node and the state of your home wiring.

Ha - spoke too soon! Speed down to .66mbps :(

When the NBN was working near our place our ADSL would slow and sometimes disappear.
We have chosen 25/5 and our speeds are 20/4 to 25/8.Usually 24/5.We are FTTN.

Son is moving to NBN in his suburb. All going well till he got this message on his phone:
NBN order updates: Your nbn order continues to be affected by an unexpected technical issue. Belong IT teams are working through remediation as priority. We will provide a further update in 7 business days if not rectified sooner.
Now they have no internet at all. :(

NBN to start charging for no fault found, call outs.

NBN Co will begin charging retail service providers it if sends technicians out to investigate a potential network fault but no fault is found.

The provision to charge for 'no fault found' truck rolls is already in NBN Co's wholesale broadband agreement – the overarching document covering the provision of NBN services to RSPs – but NBN Co has to date waived the fees.

It would be up to RSPs whether they pass on the fee to the internet end user.

Love to know when it’s not their fault !!

Unless the customer is a complete drongo is the only exception

NBN story on Four corners tonight. Mmmm its taken this long for the ABC to sharpen the claws on NBN, Morrow and Turnbull.

Funny how the CEO and PM are trying to get out on the front foot. Turnbull still blaming Labor despite it blowing out on budget and behind time on his watch.

Morrow claiming he is apolitical in his views, despite backing MTM in the past.
