New AFF Website

Ah.. I figures out how to upload the file, and thanks for the tip Pushka on making it full size. But old ones are still small

See the green how I see it.

Yeah. Not clear. Maybe that's a phone setting? Old photos will still be small as that's how they are now loaded. I'd like a bolder font. Old eyes and all that.

But on the whole I like the new site even not being able to use the app. Seems very intuitive - even for me.

I'm using my laptop - super high res screen :)

amaroo.

Thats a ~2Mb image..
I'd far prefer a thumbnail, particularly if viewing on mobile data.

Indeed I'd almost hope something that big is forced into a thumbnail just to improve page load times.

I don't like thumbnails at all. Esp in trip reports. Clearly it's a personal preference. Maybe there's a setting?

Ha. A like is now 'agree'. Subtle change.

When viewing the new posts list is shows last post by and the name.. Used to be able to click on that and go to the last post in the thread. This functionality now seems to have disappeared
If you click on the time below the name, it will go to the latest message in the thread concerned.

This is a known issue.

Slowly these things will be fixed, but there could be bigger issues to work on first.

Hate the small size rendering of pics within messages. For instance, in a trip report, you have to click the pics every time, which disrupts the flow reading the report. And of course if you scroll across the images once opened, you aren't reading any of the text!

Admin, any chance of having the render of pictures enlarged?

And I hope the ability to inset pictures from a file, rather than a URL is coming? Else that's it for me for trip reports!

Obviously, you still haven't read the guide.

As for the small size of images, I encountered this in the import process myself. There is a fix by editing the post, but obviously you wont be able to do this yourself. In the future, it will not be a problem but I can fix up some TR's in the coming days. Just not today as I have a lot of other important things to do.

This is actually an artifact of the post rating system. It allows for positive (green), neutral (grey) and negative (red) ratings, but we have disabled anything beyond positive at this stage. I will look into fixing this in the future.

Sorry, no - see comment above. I can't post an image from my HDD (ie a screenshot) - it only gives the option of a URL. But click on anyone's avatar, then the profile that pops up has 'ratings received' in the middle, with the number in lime green text. Very hard to read.

Edit: The colour on my screen is very different from Pushka's. Little contrast with background.

Read the guide regarding uploading of images.

As for the colour of your screen, you'll need to adjust that through your own settings. I know I had a very similar problem recently where my contrast was all wrong.

The photo was uploaded in the same manner I've loaded via the old app i.e. it's a photo from my phone .... did the old app reduce the size automatically ?

I don't think so. Always bigger than expected.

I'm actually pretty happy with it all and I hate change. And much easier to load pix even not using app. Phew.

Given it's a first live try it's doing really well. You lot must have done a load of testing first! Well done. I do such stuff for work and I know how hard a launch is!

Yep. On the old app. It went through jpegmini (from the FxIF data) - so most things uploaded came down to about 100k
It also stripped the FxIF data.

(BTW I used a plugin for Firefox called FxIF data to pull that info in one click)

No post number under each user name?
Just saw the different icons for 'like' 'informative' and - ummm, something else.

Testing attaching photos directly from my phone.....
edit - looking good for future trip reports :)
Brilliant - looks like the new forum software doesn't degrade the image quality any more. Good point about EXIF data: must remember to remove it before I post.

Actually, I DID read the guide :) but obviously not close enough. I'm more of a learning-by-doing sort of guy.

I think I'll leave my settings as they are. its only the ratings lime green on AFF that I have an issue with.

I agree with Pushka ... its looking good so far, just taking some getting used to.

Is photo resizing/upload limiting going to come back?
Otherwise I assume a few people uploading 8+Mb photos in Trip Reports is going to quickly fill up the AFF hard drive

Is that done by snipping off the bottom?

On desktop version, can see your post # and likes received.

No post number under each user name?

There is, but perhaps you can't see them if you are on a mobile? Try putting your phone into landscape to see the different user info in this case. Under each post you should see: date of joining, post count, like count (seems to only count likes – not agrees or informative), location, flight map (if enabled) and social media links (if enabled).

I can understand that. Plenty new to play with.

How do I deal with logins?
I have added to my iPhone home screen the main AFF page. But every time I press it, the site tells me I need to login.

I have ticked the box to keep me logged in but it doesn't work. Do I need to login each and every time?

Love the 'selective quote' function. And yes. That solved it. Right now I am reading the guide. I'm like RooFlyer and tend to plunge in.
