I have not said I don't want to see ads - and I have no issues seeing ads. The issue is them being in mid post - which looks like the poster is sharing an image of the ad itself. And perhaps it's an ad that the poster does not want associated with them. My comment has been simply as to whether ads can be contained to certain containers on the page and not plonked into the middle of posts where they are not easily distinguished.

That’s a valid comment.

Although I have a subscription, I do echo some of the concerns of similar members who periodically (including myself) see ads when one shouldn't (having paid for the privilege as such). It may take a while to discover why they are seen, as it seems to be intermittent.

As for the placement of ads, it'd be nice if they are kept between posts rather than inside them. In fact, I wonder whether there would be merit in surrounding ads with a no-padding border which says "Advertisement" or similar. I remember the old AFF, however, did place ads inside posts as well; typically on the right side of an ad which would restrict the width of the post. (Sometimes, when one couldn't see ads, this would result in seeing some posts being half the width of others, affecting word wrap etc.)

The old AFF, however, didn't place ads in the middle of posts such that it interrupted the continuous reading of a post. This style is more similar to how many news sites display an article (some of them even have text before an ad saying, "article is continued after this ad" or similar). I can see how this is disruptive to those members without a subscription.

The problem though is more where those ads are placed. They were not mid post in the old version or on F

Exactly. This is what prompts me to use an ad blocker. I will disable my ad blocker for unobtrusive ads, but will happily use it when the ads detract from the usability of the site.

Ok. I hear you all loud and clear! I have now moved that ad to the end of the post being read, instead of inserting it in the post.

One of the hardest parts of running a site like this is to get the right balance between ad placement and usability. Obviously the aim is to have the best possible user experience while still earning ad revenue. My preference would actually be to have no ads at all for registered members - maybe one day, when we have more paid members :)

I know we did have an issue early last week when some ads were inadvertantly displayed to paid members. But that problem has been fixed pretty quickly, so you shouldn't be seeing any ads at all on any of the forum pages. If you do, send me a message so that I can investigate.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

I had thought this had been answered previously, so in case it hasn't ...

Subscribed threads are now 'Watched Threads'.

To view those with recent content hover over 'Community Forums' at the top of the screen. Then click 'Watched Threads'. This will then bring up 20 threads you are watching (subscribed to) with recent activity. At the bottom of the list you can click 'Show all watched threads' to, well, show all watched threads.

Further info on using the new AFF website is here: Guide to Using Our Forum Software (XenForo)

Thanks but I wasn’t asking about subscribed threads I think you misread :)

No matter, Sam has answered and has indicated there is no substitute for participated threads - at least got an answer even if it wasn’t the one I wanted :)

Will continue the countdown for the app - I just don’t use the desktop at all these days, too busy basically work from the phone but appreciate I’m probaby in the minority!

Props to admin for fixing the desktop site it is much better.

I use the new desktop from my iPhone 6S+ and find it really good. Certainly much better than the recent version of the app.

Agree it’s a good responsive site. It is just harder to follow and contribute without a participated function and just not quite as easy to navigate as a a native app but like I’ve said will just wait for app timing updates!

I mostly use a desk top for the site, I have zero Apps and just aren't interested. If I ise the site while travelling its on an iPad but I'm startng to prefer to read a magazine than look at another screen.

I find a desk top easier to use, larger screen more precise keypad more functionality. Have had laptops but they don't seem to last the distance.

Keep up the good work.

I was on holiday for a week and got to try out the mobile website on my phone. It was mostly easy to use and much better than what it used to be under the old platform. I didn't have my password with me at the time however so after a few days I couldn't access the site any more.

I tried to create a new temporary account and I was going to register under my phone email instead of my usual email. The system wouldn't allow me to create an account on my phone. At one point I had the app on my phone and had logged into it. Did the system recognise that my phone had connected to AFF before and was trying to prevent me from creating a duplicate account?

I'm not sure on the reason behind why this didn't work for you, however, members are only allowed one account. Duplicate accounts will be deleted.

There is a limit on the amount of times you can load the website before you are required to register.

Just wanted to add my voice to show demand for the eventual new app. I love the site, the changes don't bother me at all, but I prefer to navigate with an app on my phone, esp as it's a smaller screen old iPhone5.
I find my use of the site decreases when I have to get to it through safari/laptop rather than an app.
Thanks for support/admin/mods for all the efforts.

A new one on me. Was just editing a post in a thread and only trying to add a picture by cut and paste and the line above it:

when I got the message:

Is there any way to have a (private) conversation with more then 5 other members?

Yes, you need to be a Moderator ;)

If there is demand for the limit to be increased we will consider it, but the risk with a higher limit is that discussion could take place not in the forums, but in (private) conversations instead. AFF is meant to be about freely sharing information, which is why we don't have private forums.

From the snippets of your message I could read, I see your motivation is to share deals so they can't be shutdown quickly, but if there was no limit on the members you could invite to a conversation, the participation in the rest of the community could suffer. It's a fine balancing act, and I do understand the need to keep some things hushed, that's why I generally prefer to share those deals in person.

Couple of things I've thought of recently:

How do I quote from an external source? E.g. if I copy a few lines from a news article and want to make it clear they're not my words?

At the moment I put them in italics with the web address but used to be able to do it easier with the old website where it was bordered.

On my PC I have a bookmark for new posts and use that. But on my phone I have to expand the screen and then touch the three horizontal lines and then the 'What's new' line. Is there anyway to have a "new posts' button at the bottom of each thread?

I've received four copies each of the latest AFF Community news and Gazette. Not a real problem because I can hit the delete button 3 times but others may find it annoying.

Apart from these comments am loving the new site.
