New Amex statement credits

Find it weird that they dont seem to take into account the statement credits when they send out the bill at the end of the month...

I'm guessing it's there to stop people gaming the system by using a refund to trigger the minimum repayment
(Could also be a 'first principles' thing though)

What do you mean? On both my Plat Charge and Plat Reserve cards, the "credits" are included in the "New Credits" at the top of the page (the summary part that says "Opening Balance -> New Credits -> New Debits -> Closing Balance")

If I add up all the charges for the month, the total is the amount owing. They havent deducted all the credits shown at the bottom of the statement. Its a bit weird. Eg, I've spent $1000 this month, and there are $70 worth of credits. The closing balance on the statement shows as $1000.

How odd - so, if you didn't spend anything in the month following the statement, and paid the closing balance, you'd end up $70 in credit?

I just checked one of mine, and it definitely says:
Opening Bal: $1000
New Credits: $1070 <- my $1000 payment + $70 in credits
New Charges: $500
Closing Bal: $430

Please pay $430 by xx/yy/zz

Mine is
Opening $350
New Credits $370
New Debits 1070
Closing 1050

So where did my $70 of credits go?

I have a feeling its a carry over from the previous months credit, which came in after the statement date, so I paid the bill less the credit. But I still cant see why they want me to pay more than I actually owe.

Hmm
I have +350 -370 +1070 = 1050 = closing?

Yeah the math works but I spent $1070 and got $70 of credits so why do I owe 1050? I'm pretty sure it's some weird carry over from the previous month. Anyway. It's probably correct it just seems weird.

You owed 350 at the end of last month.

Spent another 1,070 to bring your total debt to $1,420.

There were 70 worth pf credits on spending last month but they did not get processed until this month. In addition you got another 300 in cash back this month to get a total of 370 back in this month's statement.

So deduct that from your debt of 1,420 - 370 = 1,050 being the balance outstanding at the end of this month's statement.

Sad but true.

Not convinced. I pay my bill in full every month so I owed nothing. The credits were this month on spend that was this month and it was only $70 of credits, not $370.

I just went over her account. Last month she spent $350 and should have gotten $60 worth of credits. She $290 which should have brought her balance to 0. Then spent $1070 and has $80 of credits/refunds. The outstanding balance should be $990 but her account is showing $1050 online. It looks like the $60 of statement credits in the previous month haven't been applied.

Does anyone know when Accor usually charge bookings made on the website? I booked a night at the Pullman in BNE on a non-refundable, pay now rate so I'd get the credit. They haven't charged it yet... stay is for early jan.

If the booking is pre-paid it would usually hit your credit card within a few minutes... sometimes it can take a few hours (in Australia) or even a couple of days (overseas).
The Accor offer ends on December 22nd so it should't be a problem for the charge to hit your AMEX card well before deadline, your $100 credit will follow within a day or two ;)

Ibis Mackay booked 6pm sat night they put it through about 11pm same day. You could probably call the hotel and ask them to put it through if you are getting too close to the cutoff

Took about 3 hrs to track for me for a pre paid booking. Instant is not normal.

I made a booking at Sofitel Melbourne on 15/12, and it has only just appeared as a pending transaction on my online account, so sometimes it can take quite a few days.
