New Amex statement credits

i've signed up plat charge supp cards for my brother, wife, father in law and father so they could get the upgrades to status with hotels while I keep the physical cards. Seems like a bit of a waste if you sign them up in your own name

Hi, all supp cardholders of the plat charge card get complimentary status with hotel chains like Hilton, SPG (Marriott), etc?

Spend 3x with Uber and $20 back. Looks targeted for the moment.

Thanks for sharing - will save me $20!

Interestingly, this offer popped up on my Explorer which has been used with Uber before (albeit back in maybe Feb/March), yet not on my Qantas AMEX which has never been used with Uber.

Now, I wonder if this works with Uber Eats, given that the charges appear the same on the statement... ;)

Yes. In addition all supp card holders get access to VA lounges, Delta lounges, Amex lounges, Plaza Premium lounges. One can also get full Priority Pass membership (valued at US$400).

Thought the VA domestic lounge access for the personal Platinum Charge was for the primary cardholder only with one guest. I don't think they check though. My wife has had longer entry and she's a supp.

You're correct. My mistake.

Damn - so it definitely doesn't work with Uber overseas?

Terms are explicit but im sure you know that there may be exceptions in the amex world. I should be in a position to report on this by the end of the month.

They may not be able to differentiate and it might work

Actually, I would have thought that this one would be easy to check. The logic would go something like:

If Spend <> AUD Then No Statement Credit End If

They may not be able to differentiate and it might work

Although AMEX do have 'gaps' in their systems I think it likely they can distinguish between foreign transactions and transactions made in Australia rather easily.

They make money on exchange fees for foreign currency transactions. So yes the most likely pay close attention!

Hi Guys,

Anyone here still buying amex Harvey Norman offer ? Went to HN today and bought vpay $300 + $200 vpay, was charged $11 fees.

is it better value to get $300 twice using one amex card ? ( still $39 profit ) - also can use vpay for ATO payment.

It's $5.50 per vpay. So if you purchased 2 vpay cards that would be $11.

You only need to spend $350 to trigger the cash back, not $500 as per your example.

I purchased 1 x $300 and $1 x $50 to get to the $350 total required.

For those of us to who chase points two by $300 VPay is the optimum solution where you can use it to replace a lower points earn than would result from MC/VISA use. You have already had the sunk cost of the second $5.50 fee and so you might as well then take out the second VPay to its maximum value.

Morseo if you are using Explorers that earn at 2 points per $

Even better if you can luck onto one of the $500 prepaid VISAs. But these seem rare.

And yes using them to pay the ATO is an excellent use.
