New iOS and Android Apps - Bug Reports and Suggestions

No, each app is linked to the apple id so my app wont work for anyone else. Tried it Friday.

OK. Thanks.

I really need to get the old app back, if possible. The new one is very frustrating to use.

There's not enough context here to determine who is at fault. Saying the developer is fundamentally at fault - especially when we start to allude to prejudices of what may be failed IT companies - is convenient, but is incorrect unless you know something that we don't that backs up that claim.

I have an inkling that it is a developer fault only because if the beta testing was effective, then why were the faults not corrected before the go live version. Of course, if the testing cycle revealed fundamental problems which were then fixed, then why wasn't a further round of beta testing commissioned, or verification that the reported errors were fixed?

Ultimately, it is the responsibility of AFF (through admin and the team) to give the final tick to go live. They were also responsible for feeding the fundamental requirements of the app to the developers throughout the development cycle, as well as responsible for facilitating the testing process and results (inter alia with beta testing members) to the developers. The failure in the developer is compromising the client's ability to effectively carry out those processes to support the successful final development of the app.

I might also pin the developer a lot more if they were a bespoke developer, i.e. they know something about online forums or even AFF itself, so they are familiar with plenty of the expected functionality. Then, they should know better, however that doesn't deflect total responsibility from AFF as the client to comprehensively express the expected functionality.

It is interesting we have not heard from admin, even to hear of any interaction conflicts between AFF and the developers (which surely cannot be confidential). Whilst I do not insist that it is necessary that we hear from admin, nor is it appropriate to have admin answer twenty questions, it would be nice to hear what is the current process is addressing the fundamental faults in the app's operation. Let's not forget that it is quite possible that AFF may have signed off on the app after the beta testing thinking that some faults were perhaps intermittent enough that it was deemed acceptable for go live, or the testing environment was not appropriately exercised in order to pinpoint errors which people are now finding. That would be AFF's fault in at least a sizable capacity, not just, or even, the developer.

Also, for those pining the loss of the PM function in the new app, that is not the fault of the developer straight up either. Otherwise, AFF and admin would be silly to authorise the new app when clearly there is no PM function, unless perhaps there might have been a naive belief that going live on the sans version would be acceptable enough until an agreed future release date when the functionality would be included in that part of the release cycle. Certainly, none of those details were ever alluded to as forthcoming.

Assuming you're using an iPhone you'll need to find the old app on a backup of the computer you use to sync your phone with iTunes. Once you've found the old app the process for replacing the app is relatively simple (I've setout the steps previously in this thread) but happy to clarify any steps if my instructions aren't clear

I think you have summarised that well anat01. A bit of this and a bit of that and the result is a bit of a botch.

Although from the admin post linked above it sounds like admin were pleased with the result (which implies completion :eek ) but users most certainly aren't.

If the old app gets switched off then as my main tool to post here, then likely I wont be paying up again next round.

OK. Thanks. I've previously sync'd, so it looks like I'm stuck with the new version. :(

Not if you have a back up of your PC / Mac from say April - the old App will be saved and you can delete the new App and restore / install the old app via itunes

The only reason I could revert was because I'd changed computers. I sync my phone with itunes fairly often.

Hooray! Used ifunbox to extract the old app from my iPad, then installed it onto the iphone.

All working again so i'll be kept up to date while away without my laptop.

Help reqd by tech blonk - I do not have AFF app installed on iPhone 6 - I did have but deleted cause I hate it and always used Main Site.

Left for USA via SIN 2 weeks ago and as soon as arrived SIN when select AFF from bookmarks it opens app and continues to do so whatever I try - how can this be?

I have checked Apps in iTunes - no AFF app - I have checked phone - no AFF app - driving me crazy - suggestions please?

first- are you certain it's the app and not the mobile interface?

if so, then it must be installed. Would be possible to email some steps through but easier in person. I'm in SIN, AMS, FRA and SYD next week.

I'm kinda thinking I'll let serfty attack it for me Sat night at post GF pageant - he has another job to do for me which we have discussed also.

I think we'd all like to have something definitive from admin. Is this as good as it's ever going to be, or is work going on to correct some of the (many) problems? If the former, we can move on to something else. If the latter, then I for one am prepared to be patient.

Myself + the developer are watching this thread and are well aware of the problems some members are experiencing in some circumstances.

As I have said in the past, we are committed to continually improve the App by addressing these issues as well as releasing new functionality. We are actually in the final stages of testing a new release which has new functionality (the search feature), UI improvements, and code-enhancements which I believe will address the "flickering" problem and the problem some are experiencing when uploading images. Expect this release in the coming weeks.

Also, as I have said in the past, we won't be returning to the Tapatalk App. We will support it while we can, but there will come a time when this is no longer possible.

Thanks, admin. This is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Admin. I hope this goes well. Luckily I never experienced the flickering but the landing mid thread was constant and annoying when on overseas phone connections.

That is interesting that, whilst I don't think everyone might experience the same problems (or all of the same problems), it seems that either the circumstances are very specific (which may point to software environment issues, which is more likely a problem for Android than iOS), or the errors are extremely intermittent (i.e. either they have an almost random chance of happening, or are very dependent on particular variables which are difficult to pin down).

Certainly for me, my problems with being unable to get the app to work even past the second or third thread that I read continues to be one; it is particularly difficult to report this in a "developer-friendly" way because it doesn't work like an app crash, where you have the chance to send debugging information with environment data to the developer.

EDIT: Just as a data point, I've installed the app on another, fairly clean, Android environment and seems to be OK for opening and reading threads. This is odd because when I did that on my phone when it was also clean (freshly flashed ROM), it had the same errors.

Actually, from this thread, those with iOS are the ones with the most issues when using the new version of the app .

My android APP has nowhere near the issues that the applecionados are reporting.

The old app is working a treat on my iOS devices.
