New iOS and Android Apps - Bug Reports and Suggestions

The iOS app only seems to get worse, can't even upload photos now :(

Thank you for your bug reports and suggestions. Please be assured that we are closely following this thread. We will be addressing the reported bugs and introducing new functionality in future releases.

To be 100% clear: We will not be reverting back to the Tapatalk App. In my original post, I explained the reason for discontinuing with Tapatalk. Now, seven months later, I’m more convinced that this was the correct decision.

Besides the potential security risks associated with providing a 3rd party access to our forums and member database, I have also become increasing concerned with Tapatalk’s business model and lack of consultation with the individual forum owners. Tapatalk has shifted from a software company which provided an excellent product to forum owners, to a content aggregator where forum owners are increasingly loosing control of their content.

We were quite prepared to lease the Tapatalk software so that our members could enjoy using the App. And we did so for many years. However, we are not prepared to allow AFF content to be pushed to a syndicated platform and to loose control over our brand, advertisers, and - most importantly - who can view or post content.

I understand that many of our users enjoyed using the AFF Tapatalk App and will be disappointed that we have discontinued using it. Replacing Tapatalk was a difficult, time-consuming and expensive exercise - we certainly wouldn’t have gone down this path if we didn’t think it was 100% necessary.

Our App was tested and refined for many months before being publically released. Some of the issues raised in this thread were identified during testing and have already been earmarked for the next release. Other issues are new, probably resulting from high-load usage which is difficult to replicate in a testing environment.

Please be patient - we are fully committed to refining our App so that it becomes even better than the Tapatalk App it replaced!!

Admin,
Thanks for the feedback.

I think much like airlines having issues the key here is communication.

It would have been useful to say we are releasing our new independent app. It is missing a few features such as PMs, Participated posts, and Search. These will be rolled out in coming releases.

Equally now, giving some estimate (even if it is changed later) of when these features might be rolled out would be useful (as would those VA, JQ flyers in Bali like communication on when they can get home)

And now subscribed has disappeared. I was subscribing to make it easier to do my TR.

The flickering on the iPad app is intolerable. Swiping upwards causes the screen to blank and revert to the first post. It's pretty much unusable!

I have to say that, so far, I have had no problems at all using the new app on my iPad Air. Nothing strange about my setup and with all the comments here I did have a few fears. (Seeks wood to touch vigorously).

There are issues with the app, but also loss of functionality. Functionality is what I am most missing. Surely you have experienced that?

We are currently beta testing a platform. Limited release only. Its interesting being the 'consumer' this time.

Friday I was beta testing IOS9 due to be released in Spring. Some interesting new features but currently loss of functions made me revert back to IOS8.4. Now my phone is back to scratch and I need to set it up again. I did know the risks in being a beta test as there were several warnings.

I still keep getting these large gaps?

My subscribed threads returned last night. This morning they are gone again. This platform needs stability.

It's really hard to give estimated timelines for releasing Apps because much of the delay is out of our control. Besides the usual issues such as developer delays, the testing and bug correction cycle, it can then take Apple up to 2 weeks to approve an App once it is submitted!

That said, I am expecting to get the next release from the developer in about 10 days - then got to be tested, corrected, submitted to the Apple and Android Stores, and approved by them. So your guess when it will be available for download, is as good as mine!

I'm really pleased to hear this :)

Maybe it is because I am familiar with the new App (having been closely involved in its development and have been using it for about 4 months), but I can honestly say that I'm not experiencing most of the issues reported in this thread. I use the Android App on my phone many times a day, and the iOS App on an iPad for testing.

Yes, there is some functionality which was on Tapatalk, but not yet on our new App. And yes, at times the App does lock up and needs to be re-started - but not very often in my experience.

It is possible that some of the reported problems could be related to the devices being used. We will be investigating this to ensure that the App performs well on all devices

I have a Google Android phone, so quite vanilla in that it doesn't have all the stuff some carriers like to install. It is a Nexus 4 with v5.1.1 OS.

I have developed work arounds, but the time wasting of being sent back earlier posts on very active threads like TOTT is a bit of a pain, as is having to load the timeline and then reload Subscribed to have the threads update.

I have an S3 which has been reflashed with a custom ROM which is pretty close to vanilla Android, version Lollipop.

Although I understand it is possible, I would be surprised if my configuration is what is causing issues with the operation of the new app.

I'm surprised (as much as anyone on the developers side) that the problems I'm having with the usage of the app are quite fundamental, as these would easily be the most tested elements of the app and most used, so one would not expect the kinds of problems that I'm having.

A lot of flickering today. I try to scroll down but it keeps flicking back to the top. I have to shut down and restart the app.

Im on the iphone and while I have the issues re functionality I dont seem to get the flickering.

I was accessing on iPhone 6 (with iOS 8.4), and I haven't had the flickering issue, either...

I'm on an iPhone 6 plus with the most up to date iOS and I do intermittently get the flickering. Also unable to scroll down past about 10 different posts before it jumps back to the beginning again. When going into a post from the unread tab I intermittently find myself 10 pages back from the last post even although I've read much further than this and sometimes even going back to the first post on the thread.
I also end up looking at people's profiles instead of their posts.
The App is not quite unusable but to be honest it's pretty close and nowhere near as functional as the old App was. Hopefully things will improve but until they do I'll stick to the browser for anything other than a quick 2 minute surf.

I will be solely using the app for my TR that kicks in properly next Saturday. Hope it stays stable for a few weeks. :p

iphone 6 user - the app is frustrating ... both before and after the recent iOS update.
