New iOS and Android Apps - Bug Reports and Suggestions

I have to say that, so far, I have had no problems at all using the new app on my iPad Air. Nothing strange about my setup and with all the comments here I did have a few fears. (Seeks wood to touch vigorously).

I withdraw my comment. Subscriptions now not working for me.
I should have remained silent.

Found a new bug, some posts I can't quote or 'like' for some reason.
This is how is should be:

I get the flickering/reloading a lot. It means that I cna only see 2-10 new threads before I give up. On the otherhand, I am now paying more attention to the news and less to my phone...

I couldnt work out why everyone was talking about the heat in Perth in the middle of winter in the Off Topic thread. Then I looked at the date where I landed on when reviewing Unread Topics - dated February.

Just downloaded the Android App. Installed fine and looks good.

Could I ask for the return of the "Participated" threads button - it has Subscribed/Unread, but I actually find Participated most useful.

The geolocation feature looks interesting - albeit I am not sure if members would be that comfortable giving out home/work address (it basically displays your Google map pin) - so maybe it needs some way of more easily turning on/off

Also in edit mode - my cursor has disappeared - typing blind and can only guess position via word underline

Please tell me you havent dropped the Participated function? I don't want to subscribe. But currently I feel a bit lost.

The missing Participated was raised during testing.

The test app also seemed to have heaps of problem remembering if I was logged in or not. Hence little things like nothing in the subscribed list. Read threads becoming unread (there is a subtle change to the text colour to indicate read or not read). Also showing a thread as unread when I had the last post in that thread. Sure I probably didn't read my post after posting it, but surely it is not beyond the realm of possibility to think that I don't need to read my own post.

Anyway, I concluded the app was unusable and deleted it. Will be interested to see other experiences, if I read this thread when on a computer.

I'm on an iPhone 6 plus with the most up to date iOS and I do intermittently get the flickering. Also unable to scroll down past about 10 different posts before it jumps back to the beginning again. When going into a post from the unread tab I intermittently find myself 10 pages back from the last post even although I've read much further than this and sometimes even going back to the first post on the thread.
I also end up looking at people's profiles instead of their posts.
The App is not quite unusable but to be honest it's pretty close and nowhere near as functional as the old App was. Hopefully things will improve but until they do I'll stick to the browser for anything other than a quick 2 minute surf.

Oh yep. Raised the jumping thing. Thought it was fixed. My worst experience was sitting there for 10 minutes waiting to be able to do anything.

Still landing on pages written months ago when clicking on the 'unread' option. Have to find the last page by scrolling down. Sometimes when posting it hangs so you click the arrow again. Which usually results in a message saying you need to wait x seconds between two posts.

And when I posted this successfully I was then taken to posts a couple of pages back.

I generally don't use the app but I have trip coming up, so I will be wanting to use it. Just trying it for this reply.

The typing field is tiny and the text size minuscule. That will make it difficult to work in low light.

Is there truly no way to attach a photo?

Not good.

My only complaint is that the timeline, unread and participated options in Android often dont refresh.

You certainly can attach photos with the new App.

Aaahh - I see now. The '+' reveals all! - Plus a bigger typing field!

However, the text within the typing field still seems abnormally small - or is it my imagination/failing eyesight?

I've posted lots of photos using the app to this thread. Click on the + ;) Makes everything much better

This is the message I have been getting when I try to post photos in the App. Makes no difference if WiFi or cellular

I cant see what you've attached using the app.

I can see it now I have quoted you.

This is what I see in your post

One good thing - I like it when you edit you can add photos. Previously couldn't do that.

Now more problems. The list of unread posts now goes on forever and the is no tick to mark them as read. iOS on iPad Air.

And sometimes when you mark them as 'read' they reappear.

My current TR I have now subscribed to so I can find it. Sometimes subscriptions disappear so I then go to unread and then back to subscriptions and they are there.

I am in HK and downloaded AFF apk to use on a tablet. Pleased to see full functionality but I don't like using the tablet as much as the phone
