New iOS and Android Apps - Bug Reports and Suggestions

All this hassle with the app on Apple devices rather calls into question the much-vaunted Apple approval process, does it not .
Not at all. The app works, for a given value of "works". The specific features of an app are nothign to do with apple, nor are internal bugs.

They are looking for contraventions of the app store T+Cs and security flaws. Nothing to do with Apple.

I've stopped using AFF on mobile devices now .. so I only log in every so often on my PC. The apps just aren't worth using (sorry).

Same here - flickering/redrawing on my iPad was driving me nuts. Also new posts takes you to months previously....

I'd like to quote you pjm but the app wont let me. :(. I could do this if I was home. I am overseas trying to use the app. :(

As far as the itunes store goes they don't test for user functionality issues.

Still can't upload some photos, makes writing TRs very hard.

C'est impossible. Awful.
Any chance this can get sorted before I move off wifi? When I go onto 3G I refuse to waste my valuable overseas mb plan just watching the circle keep spinning.

Just wish you had been more upfront at the beginning about how lacking this app was and I would never have upgraded before this overseas trip. This is what galls me the most about what AFF has done - you are treating us as beta testers without telling us.

Before I rolled back, I saw I discovered that I couldn't post a pic ... until I had uploaded the text and then edited the post - then pic upload appeared. A complete PITA of course, but maybe a work-around if anyone is just doing the one pic.

I'll try that here. Im downloading flickr as another workaround. Im pretty peeved right now.
Nope. Still spins. I never had trouble uploading pics with this update until a few days ago. The app has degraded somehow.

Suggest check out admin's post #88 . I regret how it turned out as well, but I only blame myself - I should have known better than to 'upgrade' to 'enhanced' software before others had found all the bugs.

My settings had auto-update .... not anymore. Valuable lesson learnt, thanks again pjm99au

Lucky I never sync the phone with the computer.

Testing flicker
Nope, that wont work. :(

Well I upgraded after receiving the notice of the new app, which I interpreted that the pretense was the old app would be discontinued very quickly (i.e. withdrawn from the relevant stores and functionality disabled).

I could roll back now if I wished (would need to go into a system backup I have), but as it turns out I'm not in any imperative need to have AFF on my smartphone in good working order.

Again, it has surprised me at how some fundamental functionality appears to have been missed for any or all of coding (feature not included at all), testing (feature not tested) or debugging (fault found with feature but not fixed). Thankfully this isn't QLD Health (or maybe I should say SAP), otherwise we have good authority on what happens in a case like that.

My issue seems that the app doesnt cope with iphone photo size. Crop the image and it posts.

One of the most frustrating things of all :
Start posting in the App, double tap the home button to switch to safari to link an article etc, return to AFF and the App brings you right back to the home screen and timeline deleting the post you are in the middle of typing :(

We have just submitted a new release to the App Store and Google Play. The Android version should be available for download in a few hours, the iOS version in about 10 days (as it has to go through the Apple review process).

The new release addresses many of the issues you have raised. It now includes the "Participated Thread" functionality and UI improvements include increased number of displayed posts per page, support for emotions, the Navigation Bar now on both the top and bottom of each screen and the cursor is displayed in edit block. The code has also been refined to increase stability.

As mentioned in an earlier post, we will continue enhancing the App with regular releases. Thank you for your feedback (and patience).

10 days sadly too late for me. I wont have wifi then. Unable to post pictures again today even with the trick I found yesterday.

I wrote my entire South Africa trip report, including uploading photos, from the new App. It worked reasonably well, actually. I had a couple of issues - one was with portrait photos - cropping the image slightly seemed to solve this. I did also occasionally get the "you do not have permission to do this action" message. I found that posting what I'd already written, then editing the post worked. You can add images when editing a post with the app.

Just updated the Android version - will give feedback in 24hrs or so.

My issues with posting pics only occurred in the last 4 days so something changed then. Cropping worked yesterday but not today.
