Having achived only SG (via work's discount Y policy), I guess that I'm a 'seasoned' traveller to some and 'lightly seasoned' compared to others. However, I still get a buzz from flying and a huge buzz from flying anything better than Y.

Some would call me crazy but I can understand how some would find flying very boring (esp if you have achieved WP).

Alas the supermarket docket boarding pass may itself be only a brief lifeform in the extinction process, and the only memorabilia will soon only be the image of square dots left on your mobile phone. ...
I doubt it - they'll be the norm. At the very least you'll get one on boarding to remind you, the FA's and any one else interested of your seat number/travel class. (AirNZ have been doing this for several years and still have them.)

The carrier cannot rely on everyone having PDA's/mobile phone with such capability.

While the airlines might continue to use thermal printed boarding passes for various reasons, these dockets quickly fade and are useless if kept in scrapbooks as mementoes. The Qantas historical display at SYD won't be able to have much more than pictures as pieces to display for future generations.

Well at least I can burn my OLCI .PDFs onto DVD's .... :p

Perhaps scan my gate tickets and burn the images as well - certainly can't heat laminate them.

As a side note, DVD isn't a super durable backup medium. 2-15 years, depending on the quality of the discs.

(I tried to post a wikipedia link here but my post count isn't high enough to post links yet, haha)

Further side note: Serfty, I always enjoy reading your posts on this forum. Very informative.

I’m not sure boarding passes from this era are that valuable, sure they were back then when flying was new, but now?

Nor are cardboard BP's ... over 2 - 15 years ... :p

Hmmm.... The day where I have to use a mobile phone/pda to check-in is the day I will more than likely give up flying....

Haven't received mine yet - reasessment date Dec 31. The following was received today.

We'd like to remind you that your Platinum Frequent Flyer membership is due for assessment at the end of December 2010.

At this stage, it appears you may not have enough Status credits or Eligible Flight Segments to re-qualify for Platinum. However, we understand your travel needs fluctuate from year to year.

If your travel plans involve enough eligible flights* (whether booked or not) between January 2011 and December 2011, we may be able to extend your Platinum privileges for another year.

Tell us your plans

Let us know about your future travel plans for assessment online before 31 Dec 2010. This will give us time to send your new membership card before your current one expires. Please note, you can submit your travel plans for assessment once only via the online form

Yes, I still need 610 Scs but will have those by Dec 31 via a few YUPs. I think they're waiting to see if they need to send out a WP or SG pack!

Lost track of how many on the SYD-PER flight I was on today had the old and NGCI tags attached on their backpack and cabin bags!

I am assuming some point in the future the cards will have done form of embedded screen to contain that information...

I got some interesting looks flying DJ yesterday. I had a bag that I thought I may have needed to check-in but in the end didn't. It has QF WP & DJ Gold Tags on it.

Which sci-fi book were you reading prior to posting? :p

Though to be fair I see what you’re saying, I just don’t think we’re there yet.

Saw a WP in CBR the other day with two WP tags on his cabin bag.
