New Next Gen Card and Bag Tags have arrived!

I haven't got mine yet and my year finishes at the end of Nov...

We'll see the tags hold up in real life. Given the size of them, I'm interested to see how they hold up. Assuming they're built more solid than the current credit card size tags, the next weakest link may become the bag handle the tag is attached to. I really hope they don't rip the handle/bag while the entire tag is still perfect condition...

Anyway, I'll reserve judgement until I've received/used mine...

Question is.. will they still continue to hand out the old hand written WP bag tags as well??

I hope so as I want some when I get there in December

They still have plenty of stock, I called the Premium desk last week and 4 arrived in the post promptly. I have a trial WP card but have not yet received the new NGCI tags. I fly from SYD mainly so hope to get them soon.

Received mine yesterday as well. I only just qualified for Platinum just over a month ago and my anniversary is June. My WP card issue would have been line ball with new/old pack so they must have decided for all those within a window of x days/weeks to retain/qual, we'll just wait and send the new pack.

Must say the new card looks the part. I just need some carry-on luggage tags now, might have to call.

BTW, do you think there's any chance the Austin Powers movie company can release a new movie with a new character called Platinum Member who wears QFF Platinum veiled colours??? I'm underselling myself here as Gold Member!

I am not 100% sure of the benefit for me when they finally arrive. They can't be used for int'l flights can they? And I don't check luggage domestically.

Might be a little chunky to go on my every day satchel...

Does anyone know the date when it's going to be activated in SYD (T3)? I noticed a bunch of new kiosks there with covers over them this morning.

All the signs say "Spring 2010", which I guess is 2/3 over now.

I've seen November 10 bandied about as the go-live date. Can't remember where though, may have been in the documentation accompanying the tags.

[Edit] And indeed, here it is from the horse's mouth:

Are they sending them out on expiry dates?

My expiry was early next year but I still got a new kit. I do fly a fair bit out of SYD but generally T1 not T3.

I'd be interested to know what the logic is? Maybe number SYD flights or maybe something more mysterious (that will never know)?

On the Website in the infomercial they have:

10 November 2010 will see it launch in Sydney:D, with other Qantas Domestic terminals to follow in 2011, as outlined below.
  • Melbourne – summer 2011
  • Brisbane – autumn 2011
  • Adelaide – winter 2011:mad:
  • Canberra – winter 2011
Thought this bit was interesting
The rollout of Next Generation Check-in launch kits will be prioritised based on travel frequency through Next Generation airports. So bad luck if your WP etc using Sydney T2

keep your wings dry :mrgreen::arrow:

On the other hand, I use SYD T3 almost every other week, so I had been hoping to be a part of whatever trial they had there.

<snip>

[Edit] I was wrong - thanks Andyzx. :)

Hmmmm, I go through SYD T3 twice every second week, but never check in there. I guess I'll be down the list.

Would have been nice if us folk with expiration dates in October had been prioritised

My partner is gold and the Next Gen card and tags arrived today - and expiry date was 31/10!

Mind you, neither of us floy out of domestic very much at all - both T1 terminal-ators! So go figure what's happening.

Got my new card (the third one this year) and tags.
As I had already Qualified for 2011 my new card expires end of May 2012. So I guess 3 cards this year and no new cards next year.

Mine and my partners' new kits arrived today aswell, but my geeky excitement, soon turned to disappointment when I opened the kit and found Gold Card and tags.

OK so I only qualified for WP last week, I understand, no drama really, but then I read the letter - same as below except my date is 30 Nov 2011

My new CD tags and Card arrived today as well - with the nice note that "In recognition of your loyalty, we are delighted to extend your Platinum membership until 31 January 2012" (my anniversary date).

I found that to be very annoying, as I had already re-qualified for Gold for next year, months ago... It reads like they're doing me a favour, but in fact, I'm only getting what I've already earned through spending all my money with QF...

Can anyone tell me -

1 - when they'll likely send me my Platinum Kit (I hope it's soon)
2 - If they'll extend my WP for an additional year (like they claim to have done with SG).

3 - Totally OT but if they will EVER respond to my complaint..

Cheers

No sign of mine (having rushed home early!;)), and my expiry date is Oct 31st:(
Card and tags arrived today...card looks nice and sleek but baggage tags "so-so".I think Marc Newson may be going the way of Neil Perry:shock::(

Speaking of NGCI tags & cards, I must remember to call QF and ask them not to send me my QPNB's as I'll be QPPS in two weeks time. Wouldn't want them wasting plastic and paper unnecessarily being the environmentally conscious person I am ;)

They might send 2 QP guest passes though, useful to give to friends ;)

No, they were giving you (comping) an extra year of SG because at the time you hadn’t hit SG again and they were being nice, you then re-qualified appropriately, and thus you might get a comp next year. So as you weren’t WP, you wont get 2 years of WP, but if you’re short next year, you might get a comp.
