This is a joke and very sad.

The people voted for Kevin Rudd (love him or hate him) to lead the country not the puppet the power brokers want to lead the country. I was hoping we would have 2-3 terms of non-Liberal government but I think this latest move has knocked that idea on the head.

And oh yes, the people of NSW also voted for Morris Iemma not the 2 puppets that have replaced him without an election.

Since when did we start voting for who we want as Prime Minister. I don't recall K. Rudd on any ballot paper I have filled in.

As far as I could tell, elections in this country are a matter of carefully selecting who you do not want for a leader.

*sigh* what a democratic society we live in.....

Make that representative rather than leader and I'm with you.

did I just hear gillard on the TV saying Martin Ferguson was treasurer? Was was I dreaming?

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Well, Julia Gillard is now the first female, and 28th P.M.of this wonderful Country.
Time will tell if she is any better than Rudd.

Cheers Dee

She doesnt have time.

I am surprised that the unions can determine who can be PM, despite what the people have determined.

Arrogance.

SPRUCE :confused::o:evil:

I don't think this is a valid argument. The Labor Party won the most seats at the last election. The Labor Party decides who their leader is.

In actual fact, we don't vote the PM in. His party does that.
From memory we had a choice of 2 people for Prime Minister in 2007 and Kevin Rudd won the election. The person voted to lead a party through an election and then be elected as prime minister should be able to finish their term without backroom politics coming in to play.

At the next exlection I will be voting for the person selected by the other side as I have had enough of the petty games played by the various factions within the labour party.

Just my humble opinion....

My disgust at petty games makes me want to vote for the donkey.

For me I'm ideologically opposed to one major party and I am sick of the backroom games of both parties. And voting for a minor party eventually ends up with one of the major parties. So I think better to waste a vote. Maybe a higher than normal informal vote will send a message, one day.

Just write your thoughts on the ballot paper-the party scrutineers will probably get to read it.If enough did maybe they would get the message.

The problem is that the system we have, pretty much dictates the antics we get.

Over the past three years our country has gone from great to what Keating described as a 'banana republic', hopefully Julia will take care when spending on the wishes of various factions within the Party.

Is it true that "Redhead Matches" are supporting J.G.?

Cheers Dee

Given the requirement for an election before the end of the year, it does not take a psychic to draw a target around October on the Electoral Commission's calendar. Now how long is the typical honeymoon period of a new leader?

It can't be before september because of the minimum period required between declaring an election and the poll, plus ALP probably wants some time. It won't be september due to football grand finals. It probably won't be early october. So I'd say late oct/early nov.

Actually, an election can be held as early as August 14th 2010 and as late as 16 April 2011.

Notwithstanding that, Ms Gillard stated unequivocally last night on national TV to Kerry O'Brien that the election would be held this year.

A house of representatives cannot be held before August 14th election if it is to be in conjunction with a half senate election.

Quite so and Kevin Rudd was their leader who would become PM, if the Labor Party had the numbers to form a government, which we know they did, so its quite academic.

Its not hard to follow.

People actually voted for 'Kevin 07' via voting for their local member. We do vote for the leader and party in this country.

Take a straw poll, you will be surprised at the amount of people of who not know their local member, but they all know who is PM and what Party is in power.

Given the current PM was deputy leader for four years and participated in the 'kitchen cabinet' and all the poor decisions of the last administration, not long at all, one suspects!!!!!!

I can understand the frustration, however there are many people around the world prepared to put their lives on the line to ensure they have the rights you are all too willing to waste.

Best way to get your views heard is to get involoved in the process rather than slink away somewhere and complain you are powerless!!!!
