New Zealand Introduces 14 Day Quarantine for All Arrivals

So how long for Australia to copy this restriction? I honestly don’t think our government would have the guts

Jeez, they are directed by the CMO advice .... try taking a break from the political BS - it's starting to show!

I'm sure you're better than this....

The Kiwi government is getting serious.

Huh? Have you read the conditions of the ‘isolation’? As I posted up thread, I could take a 2 week self drive holiday there, right now, no problem.
There’s never been a better time to visit New Zealand!

DSC anyone?

There have been some reports that the government will be checking up on at least a portion of those required to self-isolate. If selected for checks I imagine the authorities will not take kindly to a self drive holiday during the mandatory 14 day self-isolation period.

I am kidding, of course, but if they did check on me and measured me against their ‘self isolation’ criteria, I don’t think there would be much for me to worry about, as long as I didn’t linger in the take away shops.

Good to see you aren't actually going to do this.

I wouldn't want to be arguing fine points whilst detained.

Of course we've all seen the rules can change at almost no notice - it is certainly possible during a 14-day period of a visit that self-isolation requirements tighten considerably.

I got into Wellington yesterday before the announcement, it was still business as usual except egate is switched off and we have to answer where we were in the last 30 days.

Now my worry is whether I will be stranded in Wellington as I am supposed to fly back on Thursday, I hope Australia won't impose a similar restriction.....

Looks like VA has cancelled today's VA169 from MEL which is scheduled to arrive in AKL past midnight when the restrictions start kicking in, but replaced it with VA9553 arriving earlier at 11 pm tonight instead...

VA159 from BNE is still scheduled to arrive in AKL at 1 am.

My understanding is the exemption for (some) Pacific islands is due to lack of Covid-19 spread and since many of those countries are dependent on supplies from NZ. Note there are also strengthened health screening for travel from NZ to the Pacific islands - I haven't seen the details but it could be similar to the existing requirement for Samoa and French Polynesia (must have doctors certificate dated less than 3 days old).
The problem with that though is that there appears very little testing being done in the region.Only people with symptoms tested and the tests are sent to Melbourne which has a Regional WHO lab.
The other problem is Fiji,Solomons and PNG in particular were slow in banning people from China entering as well as them having a lot of Chinese aid which generally comes with Chinese workers.
If it does happen in the Pacific it will be a disaster with high rates of diabetes for example meaning possibly a lot of severe cases.Just as was seen in Samoa with the measles a short time ago.

9xx_ are usually ferry flights.

Perhaps getting the aircraft over there before midnight to avoid any doubt to operate a return service in the morning? Chaos.

I did try a dummy booking and it was available for sale though...

Might be revenue then.

Reminds me of a story when I was behind the check-in desk. Once had about 10 people turn up at PER for a 23:00 flight PER-PHE. Yes there was a flight - but it was cargo only. Someone had forgotten to zero out inventory when loading the schedule! It can happen...

Yes I realised you were kidding, but my guess would be that on landing you would be asked what your self-isolation "accommodation" is and when if you answered motorhome that it would either be next flight back to Oz or 14 day quarantine for you ;)

The wording while loose currently seems to all about returning Kiwis rather than entering travellers.

ie "Where possible, contact a friend, family member or delivery services to carry out errands like supermarket shopping on your behalf. "

I suspect that tighter and different guidelines will soon emerge for non-residents.

Exactly.
Just that they're are another dozen self appointed experts with differing views appearing on TV, and more on this forum.

Put simply.. you can't stop this - only slow it. So the question is what's the most effective way of doing that without cratering the economy.
