Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

You didn't miss much to be honest. The quantity of feed provided was insufficient so essentially we paid to be advertised to. Don't know why they asked for dietary requirements as they didn't cater for them...
That's a bit harsh. 15 minutes after I asked about the vego offerings I was offered 2 small potato patties.:confused:

Too many young wines being consumed.Back home now so time to dust off the cobwebs and come out with another ancient sacrifice to the gods.

Bottled before the French got all thingy about names on wine bottles.Tahbilk of course is an old fashioned Aussie Chateau.
needed to breathe for a while.Still drinking very well although past it's peak.
Most surprised that it's still drinkable! Well done.

The real reason I had that bottle last night was the Tahbilk charts for April had it going from ready to declining. As usual they were right.
The 1995 shiraz is listed as ready and should stay that way for 1-2 years.

I think my sock drawer will need attention.

Not everyone likes Pinot Noir... It's one of those varieties that tends to be love or hate on the Australia palate. Chardonnay is the same.

In both cases, poor cheap versions have often tainted people's opinions.

I absolutely agree that a cough Pinot is dishwater, but a good one is exquisite.

I think I have been lucky - I have enjoyed almost every (Tassie) Pinot I have tried - obviously some are better than others. I have never liked Chardonnay though :-( so maybe the first few I tried before abstaining have clouded my thinking... Maybe I should do an Uppy and get some help appreciating white wines

I feel the same way about Sav Blanc. I had some that were like battery acid and it put me right off this variety

In "BURGUNDY", Anthony Hanson writes "Great Burgundy smells of ****. It is most surprising, but something the French recognized long ago, Ça sent la merde and Ça sent le purin being common expressions on the Côte. Not always, of course; but frequently there is a smell of decaying matter, vegetable or animal, about them." )

ps: I didn't write **** I wrote ****. :) Obviously French is ok tho!

I think we are spoilt for choice with good Pinots in VIC, TAS and across the ditch. Not so much when it comes Chardonnay though, still too many mediocre labels overflowing the market.

Some nice VIC Chardonnay these days too - Curly Flat, Bindi, Paringa, Coldstream Hills to name four.

Normally can't stand Chardonnay but really enjoyed a few Napa chardies. Even told one winerie that I was definitely not a white drinker but loved theirs and he said it's one of the best compliments they can get...
