Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Well...TBH I wasn't impressed. It was just too simple and too mild. There was nothing there to justify the $130 RRP or even the actual price payed of $65. In these price ranges I'm expecting some "Wow" factor but got nothing here. I had much cheaper Coonawarra Cab Savs which impressed me more then this one.
Hopefully it's just a case of too young to drink now and it will be better in a few years.
Damn!! Was hoping for much better review!!

Tried Kemenys Hidden label Barossa Shiraz 2012 (KHL 8186) on Friday night. Delicious! Quite a light style, reminiscent of Pinot Noir, and tasted very much of strawberries. Richard Langford is the name found on the label and I think the wine must be the Elderton Estate Shiraz.

You should be able to google the review on the Kemenys website to find out for sure.

This was the dilemma at a house party last week.

Unfortunately Mr Penfold was dead. A skilled anaesthetist was able to extract the cork which disinterested on extraction. Unfortunately the wine was closer to vinegar, probably due to poor storage. The guest who brought this clearly didn't know the host well as they don't drink wine (sacrilege), thankfully my medically minded friend and I were on hand to save the day.

The Evans & Tate Metricup Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 is drinking beautifully right now.

And last night we I enjoyed a quiet bottle of Mount Avoca Reserve Shiraz 2008.

Drinking quite well currently. It benefited from decanting, which was good as I had a glass before cooking dinner, and the second glass with food was excellent.

I'd withhold judgement for the time being. JH gave it 97 and HH 96. It also has a pretty strong rep as one of Australia's best cab sauv. Not quite top tier like 707 or The Tally etc but I'd argue in the next rung down. Usually it would be a steal at $65...

It's not a bad drop, just failed to impress. Will probably improve with time but I'm not sure I want to gamble $400 on that.

I decided to split my investment and get some RWTs, hopefully they will also arrive in a nice wooden box ;)
Understandable - I also want to buy a doz RWT at Dans disc price also but I am stuck in China and cannot get onto Dan's site and I also want to convert some of the Gift cards I bought from Groupon which I still have not received - can't take a trick right now.

I think I might be missing something - I don't see any special price on Dan's for RWT :(
Nope, neither do I. Around $900 per case (6)...

CruiserElite if it's a special for China, maybe check if the word Penfolds is spelled correctly? There are known bottles where it's not.:)

After 21 days I received those E Gift cards CE. 7.5% sounded great for the Groupon BigW deal but I will not do that again.
I missed the Grange offer.

Me too - but it will be back again soon - that was the second run in last couple of months.
Just checked and looks like it finished and back to normal price.
Bummer - but it will appear again. I need a doz of the 2012 RWT at that price and a doz 2012 389 which Dan's had on special a month back then I'm basically done for next 6mths or so.

Or it could be the fact it was sealed with a cork, have never had this problem with a screw cap!
