Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Just checked and looks like it finished and back to normal price.

How does one get wind of these "delivery only" offers from DM?
I didn't receive any email from DM even though I am a MyDan's member.
Only knew of it because mentioned here.

Yep ... that's how I found it. Initially I was checking DM's out to see if they had updated their secret deals, and then I decided to look up what their current stock of St Henri was like when I stumbled upon the RWT special.

Cellar Tracker - as recommended earlier in the thread by Daver6 and others. Found a couple of bottles that aren't in their database, but as they are stickies and one from NZ, going to keep them off the record.
You can add new wines to the database.

Might just do that - they are both dessert wines, so not surprised that they aren't there. Just added some more from my "collection" at work that I am about to take home {Rockfords] - problem being that I have no space for them in my existing fridges and no room to buy another fridge. Might just have to drink some of the ones that are beyond their expected cellaring date.

After finishing all my jobs, time to sit down and watch MKR for some showdown sparks

Lovely wine - medium body and surprising mild on the side and front of tongue. Whilst young I think it still needs some time. Slight astringency but I expected more

OK, folks, another something from left field:

Garganega is an ancient Italian variety that is the core (usually about 70%) of Soave - which is a denomination, not a variety, in the NE of Italy. The rest is usually Trebbiano with perhaps a tiny dash of Chardonnay.

I quite enjoyed the straight Garganega. It was certainly fuller flavoured and heavier-textured than a Soave, as one might expect from a wine produced in Australia, but not overpoweringly or clumsily so.

I had it as a pre-dinner aperitif over the last few nights. Still trying to think of what type of food I'd most enjoy it with. Maybe some Thai or similar Asian food.

Interestingly, I spotted it on Dan's website as I was rummaging around. Ordered two bottles as part of a rather eclectic 18-bottle mix. It's ended up being four separate deliveries coming from all over the place, but free because the purchase was over the free delivery minimum. The two Garganega came from Dan's Marion, S Aust.

Gotta get out of the comfort zone occasionally ;).

How interesting. Must try a bottle. Have drunk many a Soave and never looked further than the following red.

Absolutely! Thanks JohnM

Had a Domaine Chandon Pinot Gris 2013 or 2014 at a modern Thai restaurant on Sunday night - one of the best Pinot Gris' I've tasted! To me, it was half way between a usual Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris - retained the lightness of Grigio, with the texture and touch of sweetness of Gris. Glad they didn't have what I originally asked for!

Half of this tonight:

Not what one may typically expect from around Geelong IME. Very fragrant, light body, good acidity, almost nutty on the palate. No sign of the heavier earthiness of, say, a Sangreal from the same producer.

It went well with some nice thick, very sweet, grilled lamb cutlets. But was it a stand-out wine? - no, IMO.

Looking at the back label wrecked things for me. I bought this from my online 'Pinot Pusher' as I am apt to call this Pinot specialist. I think if I had seen it in a shop first and read the back label, I would have recoiled. My BS detectors went ballistic.

WTF does 'anatomically distinguished' mean :rolleyes:. Sounds like fairies-at-the-bottom-of-the-garden BS to me . I would have expected a lot more than this sort of unintelligible mumbo-jumbo from Gary Farr.

I'm an agricultural scientist and it defies any agricultural sense to me. If any of our (vast) medical fraternity (don't they have anything better to do...;):p) can offer a plausible explanation, they win the prize*.

* And - wait for it - the prize is: an evening with QF WP arm-wrestling him to remove labels from his Riedel glassware .

Well any male would like to be called that, whether muscular, build or otherwise :o ;)

Great, if I win, a night at home alone :D
