Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

WTF does 'anatomically distinguished' mean :rolleyes:. Sounds like fairies-at-the-bottom-of-the-garden BS to me . I would have expected a lot more than this sort of unintelligible mumbo-jumbo from Gary Farr.

LOL. Fabulous find! Interesting. Gives me a night of Googling while catching up on The Good Wife. Nothing directly came up apart from the concept that the vines sound that they are all the same clone but different from those in another plot, but that seems to be transcending the BS spectrum as suggested.

Maybe it means the grapes or vine all have the same red Reidel labels stuck to their anatomically similar parts.:)

We'd better email GF and ask maybe.

Second bracket.

The Vasse will live for another 10 years. The Pyrus under cork thankfully was very good. (Currently $35 for the 2012 on VM).

Highly recommend the Juniper Estate.:D Beautiful poise and length. David Franz' Barossa Cab was impossibly big and ripe. Way too early for this 2003 Museum Release.

Blend lovers, here's a real intriguing one. The name translates to 'new moon over old vines' and it's made from a Bush block of unidentified native Portuguese vines (apparently up to 23 varieties have been identified in the block). Very drinkable, and each sip and sniff reveals some new facet. Lovely stuff, and not too expensive (<$30).

Interesting but I wouldn't pay a lot for it. Life's too short.

What was the Felton Rd Chardonnay like? One of my favourite Chardonnays is Bannockburn (The one from Geelong, Victoria) and this often pops up when doing internet searches, but I've never tried it.

The Felton Road Chardonnay was very poised but a little closed. Nose a little lacklustre but pleasing white peach fruit on the palate. Balanced oak and good length, served a little too cold. Opened up with time in the glass and definitely a commendable wine, as it should be at this price point. I'm a huge an of Bannockburn Chardy. One of the best in Oz IMHO. Had a memorable lunch a few years back when 2 Bannockburns of the same vintage were tasted blind and while both shone in esteemed company, Leeuwin, Pierro, Coldstream Res etc the Bannockburn with extended lees contact shone above all. (Apologies as photo won't upload).

That lunch sounds like it was great! I didn't know of Bannockburn Chardonnay until I was at a Vintage Cellars Chardonnay tasting a couple of years ago - it was the first I tasted (by fluke) and the best. Others included the likes of Giaconda.

Half of this tonight:

Not what one may typically expect from around Geelong IME. Very fragrant, light body, good acidity, almost nutty on the palate. No sign of the heavier earthiness of, say, a Sangreal from the same producer.

It went well with some nice thick, very sweet, grilled lamb cutlets. But was it a stand-out wine? - no, IMO.

Looking at the back label wrecked things for me. I bought this from my online 'Pinot Pusher' as I am apt to call this Pinot specialist. I think if I had seen it in a shop first and read the back label, I would have recoiled. My BS detectors went ballistic.

I'm an agricultural scientist and it defies any agricultural sense to me. If any of our (vast) medical fraternity (don't they have anything better to do...;):p) can offer a plausible explanation, they win the prize*.

* And - wait for it - the prize is: an evening with QF WP arm-wrestling him to remove labels from his Riedel glassware .

MrM.. I think we need to talk..
This is one of the best pinots in my opinion.. However price adjusted probably not top of the scale..
Different to sangreal and farrside.. But a very good pinot last time I tried it :)
You ag scientists and your disbelief in fairies... Lol

Whilst I don't much like Pinot (unless it's Gris or Grigio!), I agree with your comments!

Had a Domaine Chandon Pinot Gris 2013 or 2014 at a modern Thai restaurant on Sunday night - one of the best Pinot Gris' I've tasted! To me, it was half way between a usual Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris - retained the lightness of Grigio, with the texture and touch of sweetness of Gris. Glad they didn't have what I originally asked for!

On the back of this, I'm now heading to the winery on Saturday with my gf for lunch to sample their food and wine! It's been a long time since I've been there and don't think I've ever eaten there.

Uppy, of course we need to talk - but you keep passing me over for some dude in BNE ;):p. I tell you girl, you'll regret it with him .

But... Can you explain the back label of the Tout Pres because I doubt that anyone else can....

We (Daver6, me and 10 others) had our wine tasting tonight, Theme was: 'Reds from a road less travelled'.

Pretty amazing selection of wines from all over: Australia, France, Spain, South Africa, Argentina, Austria, Italy - plus a Corbieres white from France just to kick things off.

An excellent dinner rounded out the night :).

I must confess, I can't recall if I have ever tried the 407.
I have recently begun drinking Cab Sav again after my love affair with Shiraz. I forgot how good a decent Cab Sav can be. That said I do have a solitary 707 sitting in my cellar.
