Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

But predicting when I am going to die is proving a trifle difficult . Mind you, I have a bunch of callous and unsympathetic friends and relatives who are quite happy to make it clear that they are wishing me into the grave so they can rat my wine cabinets - and after all the generosity I show to them . It makes me more determined to stick around!

At least I can be thankful that the gut-busting beach runs, surfing, gym sessions and periodic physical agricultural research fieldwork dabbling that I do develop a prodigious thirst that allows me to match an Uppy-style thirst - well, only for a while ;) - even if the original motivation was merely to be able to eat & drink what I like, look good naked and be good in bed ;):p.

Oh please JohnM... You know you can't match me ;) :p :)

Well, that's the sort of robust assessment that I understand ;). None of this 'essence of sweaty saddle-leather, with traces of organic and biodynamic fairy-dust' stuff :p.

It was quite delicious; a very big wine and definitely could have cellared longer...

You had me until the last phrase!

I don't understand, have I missed something in another thread.... do you only drink at work?

I would think having all of that wine now at home, at your fingertips so to speak would have you posting more often.

No, that's the address for all the deliveries and I store the overflow for home - and all the wines for my clients. My rack at home has less than 6 left so I'd better re-stock it before Mrs QF WP complains there is nothing to drink.

Reminds me, I need some Moscato for her.

Lovely thoughts JohnM....just imagine how warped you would have been if you had stayed in my school class.
Last night we drank a 2011 Cullen's Diana and it was a hit. The night before it was a lovely Moss Wood.
Still alive and moving through the good stuff is a good plan. This year I lost a couple of mates so I am following my cardiologist's thoughts about red wine being good.

Innocent Bystander have their moscato on sale. Best one around.

Yes agreed. Excellent stuff. We often use their recipe for moscato granita as they sell at the cellar door.

There were some coupons available as well for their sale direct from the winery. Good excuse to grab a couple of bottles of their Harry's Monster and Pinot at the same time.

Love the Giant Steps Pinot. and the Mea Culpa Shiraz.

And the Harry's Monster :)

Took these two and Mrs Rugby out to our local Italian for a long lunch. We shared a seafood spaghetti for entree and then a lamb shoulder with steamed veg for main, and a rhubarb crumble to finish.

Over at my parents (dropping my son for a sleepover) and its my parents 52nd wedding anniversary tomorrow so my Dad pulled out this little beauty.

Now he has a wine glass collection that I'll inherit:

Had an 02 No 1 in March and it was just hitting it's straps. 06 was also a very good vintage in Barossa so if it's cellared well give a little more time.

I was enjoying the second part of your post, trying to paint a mental picture, then I got to the last bit

I have an '06 of that deep in slumber. Will be interested in your assessment of the '10.

I was very impressed. Didn't have the normal kick or astringency of a Shiraz, was well balanced and very mild tannins.

It has been opened but not decanted and Dad used an aerator which helped open it up. Enjoyed both glasses - only a pity I had to drive home but that's left enough for Dad for tomorrow night.

Found this little gem in the ADL QP.

I'm not used to see aged quaffers in domestic lounges.
While this blend is not my usual choice I thought it was quite nice and refreshing and most important, not too sweet.

Sunday night Pinots...
image.jpg
One of the Gibbston Valley single vineyard Pinots from the last cellar club dozen. Young (another year or three would be good) but after decanting and an hour breathing, good nose, very nice vanilla spicy, somewhat bitter tannins, maybe whole bunch ferments, medium finish. If anything little sweet as most CO Pinots these days but very nice drinking. Getting better with each glass (wine not me).
