Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

CHAMPAGNE ....AT ITS BEST!!

Please find attached the file on the GOSSET 15 Ans de Cave Brut , Champagne and more info below.

This is a one off, 1999 Reserve at only $215 a bottle. RRP is $250 and even at that price I believe it is under priced.

A Maximum of 6 x GOSSET 15 Ans de Cave Brut allowed per client as only 48 bottles in Australia, I have just tried this an its one of the best Champagnes that I have ever sampled.

These will go fast, free delivery on 2 bottles or more and Yes these each come in the wooden box.

These are available from Langtons if anyone interested sounds like a good deal. Not sure you can get these anywhere else this cheap.

Not familiar with this specific wine, but that's some serious "Australia tax" on it. Can be picked up in the UK for under $80 AUD/bottle.

Transport wine tax and some sort of GST ?

Your right that's a big difference !!

I looked and It was 171 pounds in London Berry Bros & Rudd. But it's a fresher vintage and 3 bottles.

The Australian offering is in wooden box, I believe its s limited edition because of the long cellaring? 16 years Prolonged ageing in the cellars, with no malolactic fermentation to pass the time, enables our cuvée, cellared for a minimum of 15 years, to retain its freshness and elegance while improving its vinosity, complexity and fullness. The balance is ideal and the bubbles truly work in the wines favour,
Founded in 1584, Champagne Gosset is based in Aÿ and claims to be the oldest producer of wine in the region. Its Chardonnay-led house style is notable for avoiding malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness, although in recent years an element of MLF has been introduced to create a softer style.

Priced at around £95 a bottle, Gosset 15 Years is available through Louis Latour Agencies, which took on distribution of the Champagne producer in August last ye

its about 130 Euro at LaFayette ( Berlin) but it's not the limited edition. ( later vintage if it can be called a vintage)

Capel Vale "The Scholar" 2010. Similar to previous note: cassis, with plums and dark fruits. There's leather, earth and savoury spice. Tannins are medium+ and still a bit grippy. Lingering finish. Will get better with more time IMHO. 91 on CT from me.

I've got a single bottle of the 2008. Do you think it's drinking now? Or worth keeping for longer?

This was the first time I have tried this wine so don't have anything to use as a reference, that said I have 2 left and I will leave them a few years before opening the next.

You tried it or was that just your Langton's broker?

Got my pack of First Creek Cab Merlot 2010 a few days back and thought I'd pass on my comments now I've made a few forays into it. I haven't got a photo to excite your visual senses so you'll have to make do with one I've gleaned on-line (not that it's exactly a knockout piece of merchandising-it's understated to the point of being "no frills" and the astute amongst you will point out that the image is of the 2011 vintage-best I could do!)

The colour is heading towards dark garnet red with nuances of brick, possibly a hint of its bottle age, it certainly doesn't bear the stamp of a heavyweight wine. This is borne out in the nose, which is lifted and fresh though still a little closed, I'm getting notes of eucalyptus and menthol with perhaps a touch of maraschino cherry. The palate is decidedly mid-weight and lifting Beefarmer's scale I'd give it around the 7.2 mark. There is again that fresh acid lift, a modicum of astringency, there's a flavour that I have difficulty describing but it is quite subtle and floral perhaps honeysuckle or frangipani (and yes I know it's a Cab Merlot but that's what I'm getting ) cherries but more the Kentish than Stella variety. There's the faintest suggestion of cigar box dust or ancient pencil shavings and then a moderately long finish but tailing off more quickly than I would have liked. A pleasant wine and for a tenner great value, not sure I would have been quite as chuffed parting with $20 for it but wouldn't have felt cheated either! My W&D rating is 90 but may go in either direction as it ages (if it hangs around for that long...).

De Iuliis Shiraz 2014

Very enjoyable Hunter Valley shiraz. Medium bodied, spicy, earthy, soft tannins. I probably should have left it a while but couldn't resist. On the basis of this I'm gutted I missed out on their Steven Vineyard release.

Few more from Winestar I think :)

I got myself two bottles and they are on the way. Hopefully the rhetoric matches the taste. Will keep u posted.

Was at an event tonight, started with the very lovely Norfolk Rise Vineyard - Mount Benson Pinot Grigio 2015, which was what I expected from that varietal. Lovely taste and very smooth.

A few others had the St Hallett - Black Clay Shiraz 2015. They liked it.

Serrat Shiraz Viognier 2015: 95%/5% shiraz viognier blend. 11 months in 25% new French oak. Reminds me immediately of Castagna Genesis. Dark reddish/purple colour. Nose of violets, black pepper and cherries. Taste of lots of fruit - cherries, plums, with vanillin oak, and fine tannins. Long finish. 13% alcohol. CT92 from me.

That's a BIG AC SCORE for such a young wine. Is that your highest for a newbie?

When are you going to open the next one / space the others out?

I was debating whether to give it a 90, 91 or 92. The folks I was drinking it with raved about it, so into 91. Then the price tipped it into the 92 - a lot of other cool-climate SVs (Clonakilla, Castagna) will set one back a lot more.

I only opened this because I was looking for something "light" in a red for a mid-afternoon drink - it was either this or a Pinot, and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I'm glad I tried it. I will try to hold off drinking the rest for some time. Whilst JH gives it until 2045, I'm not sure that Serrat has the pedigree to justify keeping it that long (maybe it'll last, but it's a bit of a gamble). Winefront pegs it as 2018 to 2028. Will try to hold off opening any more for a little while.
