Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Was at an event tonight, started with the very lovely Norfolk Rise Vineyard - Mount Benson Pinot Grigio 2015, which was what I expected from that varietal. Lovely taste and very smooth.

A few others had the St Hallett - Black Clay Shiraz 2015. They liked it.

Then for an after dinner drink on the Hilton 47th floor , we had a lovely Bordeaux red:

I went to a St Hallett dinner in MEL a few weeks ago - had a sparkling Shiraz on arrival, three vintages of Blackwell and the current vintage of Old Block to finish. Whilst it was enjoyable (apart from the waiters spilling not one, but two glasses of wine on me and over my iPhone), I actually preferred the St Hallett Dawkins Shiraz 2010 that came in a Wine Market mixed secret dozen. Dawkins is very different to any other St Hallett Shiraz I've had - not sure if it's different winemaker, or just different grapes and style.

We had friends over for a couple of days and the reds were most enjoyable.

The standout wine was the 2004 Bremerton Reserve Cab Sauv. This is an outstanding wine which is drinking at it's peak. It is well made and everything comes together at the right time. I could go on and on about this wine but every mouthful was just delicious.

The 2 shiraz showed the difference between a big Barossa and the typical shiraz from McLaren Vale. Both were peppery with a touch of spice, fine tannins and a good balance of fruit. They will both last for many years

The evolution of this label has been really interesting to follow.

2012 and 2013 really are the poor cousins compared to 2014.

I am yet to try 2015, but will be interesting to see.

Drinking a 2008 Wynns Black Label Cabernet tonight. Tastes fantastic but seems to be hinting that its at its peak and wouldnt take much to start heading downwards...

Love this wine. I'm down to my last bottle, now waiting patiently for Dan's or WM to offer it again for $25.

From one Shiraz Viognier to another. Standish The Relic 2007. 96%/4% shiraz/viognier blend. Still dark purple. Violets and plums on the nose - Viognier noticeable. Plums and dark fruits predominant on the palate. A little bit of oak. Lingering finish. Big, bold Barossa. 91CT from me.

Interesting. I took along a bottle to a tasting a few months ago. I thought it was still pretty primary with a long long life still ahead of it.

I Agree. I found it cassis dominant, and tannins still big. Will be better in future IMHO. Not an expert on Wynns Black Label, so will take guidance from others :)

Is that tomato on toast I see? thought it might have been ocean-run trout:) :)
I smell something fishy, but as I hate to be frugal except in the good years, I will settle for baked beans on toast. I have a few to chat about so hopefully, I can get my new phone's pics to explain the week.

It is (with olive oil and basil).. otherwise known as Bruschetta.

(not the best tomato, but have to eat it, as I am flying out.... so I can forgive the mis-see).

I am looking forward to the contents of this box... Of course I am putting this down for a little while
