Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

The 2006 Rockford SVS Flaxman and Hoffman are the last SVS wines to be produced as Chris Ringland is no longer part of the team. These wines are delicious though somewhat expensive. Given that I have 4 of each that I don't want, what would you do with them???

You'd be able to sell them for a pretty penny on the secondary market I'd imagine. Personally when I tried them at Xmas time at the cellar door, I thought the Hoffman was excellent. The Flaxman while not bad, wasn't worth the asking price.

I had this on QF1555 last Saturday, it was ok but after the Mexican Chicken meal I had it didn't get a fair go at first impressions

I will take them off your hands.

Great wine opened tonight:

the Brookland Valley Margaret River Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

My Wozza 94 point review concluded:

"A Wilyabrup masterpiece in the making. It's a classic, premium Margaret River Cab Sauv from the excellent 2012 vintage.

Small wonder Halliday and Jordan scored this flagship, low volume Reserve wine 96. After hand picking the best fruit, there's gentle basket pressing before 15 mths in quality French oak.

The resulting wine that's just been released is pure Margaret River elegance. A sweet and toasty nose leads to a translucent medium-bodied wine of great detail. There's blackberry, mulberry, crushed rock, bay leaf, mint, and toasted, earthy vanillin oaked spices. There's a melted chocolate wave running through the wine with a lick cassis. It's elegant and detailed enough to enjoy now. But give it 5 yrs, and it should be even better. A Wozza 94.5/100 (4.1) from me.
"

I picked this up from My Wine Guy for $36.99 ($75 cellar door) a bottle in a 6 pack (now sold out). But I believe it's still available elsewhere if you're interested.

Cheers, Wozza

Bollinger La Grande Annee 2002: Managed to (a) survive the house move and (b) find some good champagne to chill to celebrate! Colour is pale golden yellow. The nose is big and lush and wafts at you from a distance: stone fruits, honey and biscuit. The palate is full and soft. It's just wonderful drinking. Or maybe I'm just exhausted from packing and moving the wine collection! A huge CT94 from me.

Something special for me tonight. It's big with a medium to full body, lively red fruits, dusty tannins and a finish that just keeps lingering on and on - did I mention the nose....

A '12 Cab Shiraz from VM last night, 12 months since my last and unsurprisingly still a baby - but opened up a bit over time, drying tannins. I think I will leave it 2 years before trying the next

Had a catch up with a regular wine crew on Friday and opened a 1965 Metala (tasted blind). Wasn't sure what to expect but was seriously surprised with the quality of the wine.

Some of the comments on opening were notes of salami which didn't auger well but once the cobwebs blew away it opened up wonderfully. Still had good fruit and a decent finish so the general consensus was one of real appreciation for an older albeit cheaper wine from a price point level. 17795751_10155153498671873_3260424809850429039_n.jpg17799326_10155153498586873_5789765852746487296_n.jpg

Which year Voyager was that, and how was it travelling?

Was the 2005. Was drinking really well. Classic Margaret River nose. Decanted for about an hour prior to drinking which it needed. However towards the end of the day it was starting to fall over a little (after roughly 4 hours). So an hour decant is plenty. I'd say drink in the next four years or so.

A family friend bought us 2 cases of Bloodwood Big men in tights rose,

6 cases of Grant Burge sparkling ($50 off each, thanks to celler masters vouchers)
2 cases each of Maverick Twins GSM/Cab merlot (around $5 a bottle again thanks to people here)
Pretty good day, after a few months of laying low, I am looking forward to being back in the red wine world!

I am quite impressed by this relatively cheap Cab Sauv, it was very drinkable. Cassis, red fruit, bright acid, balanced tannin and a medium plus finish. While not a complex wine, a thoroughly enjoyable one
