Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Whites can last a long time.Hunter Valley Semillons are well known for it.Once in a blind tasting in 1991 Jay Tulloch bought along a bottle of his 1974 semillons which was about to be released as a museum wine.Took 1 sip and named it-I had drunk one from my cellar the night before.Nothing to do with palate.

Love going back to my parents place as they are always giving me something surplus to their requirements.

My dad doesn't drink Chardonnay (and neither do I, but we should be able to find somebody to drink it):

Provenance is good, came from my cousins cellar in Sydney. Must be half decent then given his 700+ bottle cellar. I took a double take at the year - I didn't think whites lasted this long:

..

Who can tell

You can by tasting it!

I had one of these last year and it was loverly, very Chablis-like. I thought the 2008s was when they changed to screw caps?

love Lakes Folly ..have never had a bad red or white. 2008 chardy may still be abit young. Hunter whites take alot longer to mature especially being under cork

Just opened my case of Wirra Wirra RSW Shiraz 2011 - very impressed and surprised to find they are numbered bottles:

Now a conundrum, how many to drink and how many to give to clients (and picking the right ones)

EK 434 BNE DXB dinner, after the DOM and Chablis, this was nice with char grilled steak. (Steak! Never see that on QF these days.)

Decisions, decisions!

Only wine I have been given this year is a Bin 28! Must be out of favour now I am semi-retired! :D Oh well, will just have to grin and bear it!

Whites can age for ages. Some of the longest lived wines are white. Sancerre (Chenin Blanc) is a classic example. Similar with German Rieslings (well most Riesling really). As well as Semillion etc.

I think that you mean Vouvray (Chenin blanc) from the Loire Valley. It is noted for its great ageability - 50 years or more. Sancerre (upper Loire - and gorgeous town to visit BTW) is crisp sauvignon blanc and not what one would typically age for a long time. The fume blancs (Pouilly-Fume appellation nearby) being oaked sauvignon blanc will be a bit more amenable to age.

We're waiting for friends to arrive ;)

Magnum of 2003 Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet for tonight. Provenance is a bit questionable, but we'll see...

Congrats JohnM you passed my test :) That is what I meant. Thanks for correcting me. Trying to finish work before the break and talking about wine confuses the brain. Best I stop both and just drink wine :) It is Festivus tomorrow after all.

The warm inner glow of a job well done. :)

Hopefully caused by alcohol consumption ;)

And my prize is...:confused::mrgreen:.

Well, you are in Perth, right? I could let you know next time we have a spare seat at a tasting if you are interested? I know the next one is full already though (members of the group do get first dibs).
