Not getting any younger! Bough a set of recent releases so trying one of each over four nights. Then cellaring the rest (for the afternoon).

Today it was Prosecco tasting in the Prosecco hills northwest of Venice. Not bad especially when they opened a bottle of a 1991 Prosecco for a couple of us. Surprisingly good.




The vignerons of the area can join a club that meets 3 times a year. The most important meeting is in September when they all bring an unlabelled bottle of their own product and vote on which is the best after tasting them all. Behind the young fellow in the above photo are bottles of the top 3 each year from 1969.

Some vignerons are not represented as to join the group you have to drink a full glass of Prosecco in one go. However it is from this glass which holds a full bottle.

On the roof of the cellar is a 1946 painting of such an initiation.

@Daver6 keen to know how the 2017 and 2018 are looking if you can rememeber? Rumours that the quality has decliend on more recent vintages since 2015 onwards. Did you recognise that?

There is a definite change in wine making style I'd say in more recent vintages. We all wondered how they'd look in another 5+ years. Time will tell. The 2020 was a bit on the average side I though though.

That's some serious piss taking on the prices. One thing if you're offering back vintages but that's just ridiculous.

I still have about 40 bottles of Grange and rarely drink it.
