I think we are following each other! I'm back in Brisbane now and heading to Melbourne on Wednesday.. Might see you at the airport :)

I'm happy to come over for left overs :D. My wine tonight isn't worthy of comparison...only a 2012 Tolley Regional Selection Shiraz

On first read, thought you were talking about your wife not wine. LOL.

Me, I am drinking one of my 2 free Parker Coonawarra Shiraz that came free with my Secret Champagne order.

I had that in a restaurant the other day.

Not too bad, but would benefit from some bottle age...

As a side note, it was a bizarre experience - this chick paid for everyone's drinks but then asked us to pay for food... ah well, it was half a shout :p

As a gentleman you should have expected to pay for at least your food.

LOL, she really should have paid for the whole meal. It was a work function and she was the most senior person there.

Making people pay for their own meals, but somehow claiming her meal and all the drinks was a little dodgy IMHO.

Not in the Xmas spirit at all!

Geez, it's not that hard ... get the 2IC to sign and the senior signs off.

At my work we had to byo food for the lab and centre lunch, and pay for the company Xmas party...

A quiet NYE for me, so this puppy is keeping me company tonight. Impressively dark colour, rich bouquet and medium bodied. The viognier adds that smoothness and unctuous feel (got to slip that one in), softening the shiraz which has layers of oak and fruits. A really nice wine for a contemplative mood, kicking back and enjoying the memories of 2014 and looking forwards to 2015.
Happy New Year everyone

My New Year's delight was a 2010 Wirra Wirra Woodhenge Shiraz. I'd post a pic but you all know the Wirra Wirra label right?

It poured a deep crimson purple. Fruity on the nose with a hint of earthiness. The first taste sat heavily on the side palate and I immediately knew I was in for a treat. The wine has a deep complexity and structure, yet is very smooth and a little smokey. Flavours of forest berries linger.

96 points. Will cellar well to ~2022.

I had it with home made tapas of grilled chorizo, roast lamb and caramelised onion sliders, garlic mushrooms, honey soy chicken skewers, and a lit of leftover baked pumpkin. My point being, it'll go with most things.
