Parker Coonawarra Estate 2008 "First Growth" Picked this wine up in a mixed six pack from WineMarket. It cost about $20 which is $90 less than its RRP apparently. Wasn't entirely sure what to expect from this when considering the low price in a mixed pack factor. I was concerned it may have been damaged or have been a poor vintage/example of this wine. I'd also seen a few negative reviews of the 2008, notably on Wine Front and also from a couple of people on this forum.
Decanted for around 30 minutes. Great nose of sweet forest fruits and pleasant animal hide/tobacco aromas. Palate is rich and dense but not heavy or jammy with beautiful sweet blackcurrant and other bramble fruits making way for a touch of spice and retreating fine tannins. Perhaps a little vinegary imperfection noticeable on the finish but I'm splitting hairs here. Very impressed having gone into this not expecting the world. Very pleased that I picked up two of these in mixed six packs. This is drinking really well now in my view. May very well go on for a few more years but I think it may have plateaued and I'm looking forward to getting the next one out soon. I don't do scores but if I did
