Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Started earlier this week, my first French wine, domaine raspail-ay gigondas 2015 , Grenache dominated blend ,fresh red fruit nose, creamy, not as sweet as a barossa gsm blend, medium finish, this is quite nice.

La ca nova barbaresco, the standard from this winery, I’ve already tried the 2 single cru, insanely good. This is just less fruit forward but big tannins ,rough ,Red Sweet cherries with a tea like fragant, not sure why quite
A bit of this ended up in auction cheaper than retail , got myself a 6 pack.

This turkey flat shiraz aged nicely , black fruits, sweet berries with a little leather, but not sure how this will Aged any further, It’s not a bad wine but it’s quite simple.

Thomas kiss from the 2009 good vintage, this wine still very young , it might only aged a little , medium bodied at best, smooth and primary black fruits, I like drinking this now , that right amount of sweetness with a combination of dark fruits and creamy texture is so attractive.

I encourage you to do as we are doing and buy direct from the winery. Might cost you a bit more than from the discounters but it will keep them alive.

We've been putting in orders over the last few weeks. One of our favourites (Eldorado Road) lost their entire 2020 vintage to smoke so they're relying on sales to keep them going, and worth a look if you haven't heard of them before.

Apologies for the delay. I consulted with a friend who is the oracle on all things from the Piedmont region. His comments are that 2009 was an average and quite warm vintage. However this is an elegant Barolo and not as affected as others. His recommendation would be to pop and pour and enjoy over a few hours.

Thanks @Daver6 !

I'll report back how I go with it!

two of my favourite chardonnays, with a Jura that was more enjoyable than the Jurassique

possibly liked the unoaked Beton most of these pinots, with Heirloom perhaps my first ever mystery wine purchase, and Punch from an early Vinomofo mixed pack

Joshua was fantastic - wish I still had more - Kurocks reminded me of Vanguardist

2012 was fantastic vintage in Coonawarra and Wynns Black Label is one of my favourites from that year. First time for me to try V&A and I’m impressed. Smooth and balanced it was a joy to drink alongside nice cut of wagyu.

Thanks, one of my first VM buys and yet to try as well

Inspired by the professional tasting @Daver6 did recently:

I’ve done my own little amateurish tasting at home.

First I must say FG Parterre is one of the best value for money Cab Savs I had. All 3 vintages were smooth and pleasure to drink but if need to chose then 13’ > 15’ > 12’

No 2014? :)

I'm shocked, surely not your first ever French wine, considering the wines that you've posted - what about Champagne? :)

Not sure I'd go so far with other wines. Maybe a young Grange.

Meant to add that 1995/1996 Bordeaux super-seconds which I've opened in the past few years have perhaps shown their best 3-6hrs after decanting (possibly longer, but consumed by then)

How is the heirloom? I've been thinking of cracking one.

My last one - good and ready to drink immediately

Yes, I mentioned about supporting them a few weeks ago - some are now hosting online tastings

It’s missing the word “purchase” , that was the first French wine I purchased , I’ve only bought Aussie wines until lately starting to buy some Italians. For French reds, I have no idea where to start plus barbaresco and starderi are more to my liking for now.

For champagne, I Might have but not that I’m aware of during weddings and events, mostly sparklings from here and NZ,a bit of Prosecco too.

its very impressive to see you doing all these detail info's,love it!!

aside from dan murphys, i will give the others a go, right after other mailing list purchases coming in the next few months.

the problem i've had with dan murphy are their cellar release wines, heat damage and chances are high, i do not have any info on how they store their cellar release and other aged wines, if they are in similar storage conditions then that's a no for me.

well, i've been pretty impressed by some of your posts, such as these boxes - i also have a few of these bottles left :)

yes, with dan's, perhaps best if they're from their cellar and drunk sooner rather than later to return in case of fault

“Mate’s is usually the tightest, most linear of the KR Chards, and that's again the case. The Mate's Vineyard Chardonnay is marked by smoky new oak, but there's also pineapple and grapefruit notes that create a crisp, acidic spine. Draped off of that are hints of white peaches, roasted hazelnuts and tangerine. There's an almost briny zestiness to the lingering finish that sets it apart from the winery's other single-vineyard bottlings."

I'm having sausages and mash but sadly no St Henri :(
See pm for address :) :)

opened an hr ago. Still very tannic and dry. Never actually been a fan of this wine. Have now given up buying them, particularly at the current prices. Have case of 2010 & 2015 as well I think plus some 10-15 year ones in fridge. (Used to buy all Penfolds reds each year.)

Looking fwd to the sausages! Enjoy yours!

Needs more bottle age. Ideally about 20 years.

Wow! What a wine. Still so young and vibrant. Incredible length of flavour. This has a good decade+ to go still.

And this is not even a good year for semillon in the hunter.
