A cracking night in…
I had a glass of the Stargazer on release at Chiswick and the acid has certainly softened since then. It’s evolved into a beautiful well balanced chardonnay. The Pinot in the Phase III Dero certainly shows. Delicious.

Must be close to best NZ Pinot. This has aged brilliantly. Excellent nose, still good tannins. Riedel glass has seen off 20 years of Pinot and dishwasher!

Huge wine 16.5% ABV so needs time to mellow. I reckon 9 years in bottle and 3 hours decant did the job. It’s nice and smooth now.

For what it's worth, recently drank a bottle of the the Juniper 2017 Cornerstone Wilyabrup Cab Sav and it's drinking absolutely beautifully. Well and truly in its drinking window with nice soft tannins. Still plenty of fruit and not too many tertiaries so heaps of life left in it yet - probably another 10-15 years if well stored.

Can definitely keep longer, not sure how much better they’ll get though. I reckon the 15 drinks we’ll now.

So I tried the $11 plonk - hewitson ungrafted shiraz 2021 - from the wine deals posted here recently. Red cherries, bit of a medicine taste, balanced , not all that intense, plain in my view and certainly didn't think it had a long finish. Not quite medium body. Better with a bit of time open and was OK with tomato ravioli. Wife liked it alot. I think good drinking for price but don't expect to be excited about it.

Cork split into two, with the bottom half now peacefully swimming in the bottle. Few more years to go on this one, but in a good place now.

What a wonderful Pinot.
It was so nice to take a deep breath and inhale those magnificent fumes. The nose is just breathtaking, the flavour superb.
We enjoyed the wine with pappardelle chicken ragu. I started the ragu at 1:00pm and let it slowly simmer until 7. The recipe called for a bottle of Pinot (a different one for cooking) so I thought why not the B of F to go with the meal.

The theme last night was any Bordeaux blend with at least three of the main grapes. The champagne was to celebrate MrsDaver6's birthday. WOTN was the Mongravey. The super Tuscan I brought along was corked . That's the last three wines opened under cork by me have been ruined by TCA. I'd excel at a wet cardboard tasting though

Decanting about half bottle each for tonight to drink with slow cooked Bolognese. Will be interesting to compare these two great producers side by side.

Yeah underwhelming for me, but not bad enough to send back. Keeping them for a secondary/tertiary opener when required.

Wynns is corked, unpleasant favour or mould domain. Body is good, strong, lots of tannic.

I still remember the picture when I bought Stonewell. It was in Castle Hill Dan murphys old address which is inside shopping mall. $85 at that time. Now the new wine is selling the same price bad investment.

Nothing special. From the colour it is still strong. I use waiter's friend to open it. It almost break into 2 pieces. Leather on nose. But on the palate I can taste of aeration favour which is introduced by air going into the bottle.

2 old wines are affected by cork closure. Disappointed.
