No J classics online / JASA costs [temporarily] jumped dramatically

Doing some tests, U class is definitely not being accessed by the JASA booking engine.

e.g. QF133 MEL-AKL on Apr 12 is showing ..D9...U3 ... is pulling from D class rather than U when the options come up. Also, X9 on this flight, but class being pulled is Q.

However, unlike last time, Business classic awards are showing.

I am thinking it's possible worst case for us and it follows like this:

Two weeks ago in (~Apr 18?) there was a 'fix' put in to stop U/Z/P fare buckets showing up for Premium ASA's.
This was not implemented properly and blocked the classics from appearing as well.
So the fix was pulled for re-investigation.

Has this been reported as an error? I can't see how it would be if classic award availability is unaffected...

[Edit] Unless, as serfty noted, JASAs should still be able to access the U bucket...

A dummy change attempt online simply converts the JASA to a dollar amount (at a pathetic rate - probably because it was a cheapy at the "classic plus a few points" rate), then offers the full fares. Not looking good.
This is quite normal and is a real pain. This is a good example of where knowing the rules is a necessity.

A call is always needed and from my experience I often know more than the person answering the phone and often have to explain the process to them.

Agreed. I think I got lucky because I got an agent who kenw exactly what to do, and had no problems at all making quite a complex change happen - requiring no prompting, explanation, justification or anything - just did it - which was great, and should be the norm. Pity it isn't.

Actually it is a bit more worrying - as the classic engine is still finding them.....

Lucky timing - I managed to book a JASA for MEL-SYD-DFW on Tuesday. Normal classic award points value and about $50 more in charges.

I booked a JASA when the glitch was ( temporarily it seems) resolved. SYD-PER-MEL-SYD have just looked at the same dates on the search engine and the points cost has gone through the roof on all flights. The red-e-deal ASA's haven't changed at all
Looks like the days of frequent spenders gaining status are over.
There should be an email or letter from QF explaining this to everyone if it's going to be permanent :(

Hmmm, they are experinceing problems.

I cannot review a "Classic" award Business class selection on line for the Above 12 April flight.

As soon as I click the flight selection "radio" button for business class, I get the following:

We are experiencing connectivity difficulties.
This does not happen when I click an economy option.

I have tried this on two different PC's on different networks.

However, on other search it's ok.

Are you sure about that? I could have sworn that the MEL-SYD red e-deals have appreciated by 25-50%.

Yes, apologies you are correct. The price for a YASA is now at least 30k one way SYD-PER even when classic awards available ( 36K return). The JASA's have gone to silly sums.
This "enhancement" is bad news for everyone.

Just to add my experience tracking a particular YASA for 27 May. On Wednesday there were still a couple of flights at the classic award level in the morning. By the afternoon they had all jumped to the new level. Sorry to say I didn't check fare classes as the timing was wrong anyway.

But if it was a blanket change I won't expect such an inconsistency. :?:

Edit: and now there are some classic level YASAs are back. Review booking shows them as E. The out bound leg is at the wrong time and the time is need is at a much higher points cost. Both show X3, E9. In fact all fare are showing the same availability of both flights. The return has X7, E8.

One of them is at the right time and would be my platinum requal flight. Might book it just for the symbolism.

Ok more research on my route comparing the paid cost vs YASA cost for the same flights in time order:

  • $206 25015
  • $152 18641
  • $227 27506
  • $152 18641
  • $152 18641
  • $206 25015
  • $206 25015
  • $248 30004

This is a fairly consistent 0.82 cents/point.

JASA are showing a similar relationship to the dollar purchase price @ ~0.84 cents/point.

yes where i was looking in Feb next year for the JASA is still all over 1m miles and its the exact same everyday for a month either side - when i checked before the change there were a few seats at the old lower levels, so certainly hasnt changed anything for next year yet....

i hope this isnt a permanent change :(

Tried booking a JASA Sydney Melbourne and can get it down to 16000 points but then I have to pay AUD516.14... This is starting to look dodgey to me.

Really? Which routes? Not on the ones I've been looking at. (Same with YASAs)

Saw a canberra to Hobart return in business via syd for 23k points each way before putting in a cash component

Does seem to be less fares at the lower points but they are there

Can you give some dates, all I get for a HBA run without putting cash in are over 120.000
