I'm looking into this now but SQ return to Melbourne appears to be well over 4K in J. Then I would need to pay the same again to get on to Europe or the US. I assume you are doing it for the same reason as me, to get a return ex Asia to use each year. I can't make it work. On a related note Matrix ITA is worse than useless for pricing. It is showing Malaysian J to Europe $2000 more expensive than the airline's own website.

Why are you looking at SQ, it's CX that is the airline in question?

What route are you trying to book?

Perhaps the fare bases found via ITA and on the Malaysian website aren't the same? Or something not quite apples and apples?

ITA doesn't find all fare buckets, especially some sales which the airlines for some reason and some how manage to withhold from databases interrogated by the likes of ITA. This is more true for Economy fares; I haven't seen it so yet for premium class fares.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I'm a bit stumped.
The answer to this is probably well buried in here somewhere, but i had a "bloke look" as my wife calls it.

I would like to do 2pax on JASA's at classic rates from AU to LAX in October, realistically it doesn't matter if we depart MEL,SYD or BNE.
Ill pick outbound date as say the 4th of October for example, with a return date of the 9th of October.

On the 4th if I put in 2 pax in the JASA (at classic level) it shows no availability, but with 1 pax it is available on multiple flights. (how can i book 2 people at the level?)
Secondly, if i put in return, it shows no classic point level availability, whereas if i choose one way it is no problem. How can i book the return on the same classic award level?

Lets also say I want to Jasa's one way (on the way over and just buy some cheap y flights one way on the way home, is that possible?

thanks for your help everyone.

Sometimes the fare availability varies between one way and return.

Also check the loadings as there is probably
only the one seat (U) available in business class.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

ReLoad I would suggest you take a slight risk and book MrsReLoad first and then book yours second to show the caring side of your relationship. Then as a one you book the closest flight to the first one.
Sure you won't be holding hands on that flight but you will both get there. You could cause a family ruckus by booking into First but if that shows up.......
You will increase your chances a lot by splitting up onto different flights.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

ReLoad:
Two seats available, for example, SYD-Auckland-LAX, 2 Oct or 8 Oct, at 136K pp, one way. Haven't searched any further. Those options may work for you, if you have some flexibility?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Thanks Cove and Serfty, U class is indeed the "in precious demand" we can get there on a JASA at the classic rate, we will just have to go a slightly different path. But J is J :)
Coming home there is not sniff of U anywhere, so will need to be a paid ticket.

The 2 for 1 deal thats on right now, may be a better option.... hmmmm decisions.....

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Reload that is where I go on and use Kris Flyer to go A340 to SIN on SQ points from LAX to get a brilliant quiet ride.
Citibank and Westpac can get you Kris Flyer points.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Mrs Lime and self were able in late Dec. last to find as a JASA CNS/BNE/LAX then later for return LAX/AKL/BNE/CNS then last Sunday using EXPERT FLYER found the return (instead of AKL milk run) LAX/BNE/CNS called up and changed it, saves us 10 hours of extra travelling time.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

A bit off topic but why is the qantas call centre so miss and hit with any seat bookings, you either seem to get (very rare I might add) someone who knows what you would like to do but 9 times out of 10 you get someone who doesnt seem to understand a JASA and the fact that you earn points on this and always try and talk about classic awards, its so frustrating that you have to educate the people who are meant to know about the product. Red Roo if you read this I really think your call centre staff could learn a lot form the vast knowlde of the people in this forum, I have received more help from the people on here than i have from the qantas team. My rant over!

I wouldn't expect a lot of staff to know ASAs except to the extent to help you book them (because you can't get to a website), or to manipulate them (e.g. cancel them because doing it online gives a pittance back).

FWIW when I've talked to various Premium staff they seem to know what I mean by ASAs and points / status earned etc. (of course, I don't say "JASA", I actually say "Business Class Any Seat Award". I don't expect them to understand "JASA" either.)

I think we beat almost any airline in the world when it comes to what we know vs what they know.

There's also some stuff here that's probably best that they don't know...................

At the moment the QF7/8 SYD/DFW/xBNE/SYD flight is a 4 class a/c sold as a 3 which means some PE seats will actually be J class Skybeds with PE service. So when you do the booking log back in immediately and grab the Skybed seats which will be around row 29 or 30 with the 2 3 2 config. On the seatmap the 2 4 2 config are actual PE seats.

Word of warning though, these aircraft will be configured at the end of the year so what could happen is you may be able to pre-allocate a Skybed in PE however this may revert to a normal PE seat later in the year so it's not a given.

Ex BNE if you look for Any Seat Award availability in PE you will find seats on QF8 BNE/SYD connecting with QF7 SYD/DFW on Wed 03 Oct, Thu 04 Oct & Fri 05 Oct for 72,000 points plus AUD461.12 per person. The fare conds below stipulate you can have two stopovers so I would book it first then call up QF to rejig it so you can get at least one stopover somewhere.

You could use the BNE/SYD flight some time prior to flying SYD/DFW then either purchase an award ticket or red-e-deal MEL/SYD on the same day you fly SYD/DFW. That way the MEL/SYD/DFW bookings can be linked so your baggage can be checked all the way through to DFW & you receive both boarding passes at MEL.

Ex SYD there is availability for QF7 SYD/DFW on Wed 03 Oct, Thu 04 Oct & Fri 05 Oct, however it's more - 84,000 points plus AUD438.89 pp.

Ex MEL the points are 84,000 however the cash component is a ridiculous AUD2,622.64!!! I believe is due to the fact that there is no actual PE on any flights between MEL & SYD & the travel is in whY however for that price you could purchase a full J sector several times over.

Coming home there is not sniff of U anywhere, so will need to be a paid ticket. The 2 for 1 deal thats on right now, may be a better option.... hmmmm decisions.....

Have a look at return sale specials LAX/MEL/LAX vs LAX/MEL one way. Find out the maximum stay on the special return fares as it's possible that the return MEL/LAX flight could be used to fly you MEL/LAX on your next trip in the near future.

Thanks OzBeachBabe awesome info! I like your alternate thinking about using DFW.

Great stuff, just to muddy the waters, there is a few FASA options which would almost guarantee that any time spent on here and on SC runs to ridiculous Caribbean destinations will not only no longer be frowned upon, but celebrated and encouraged.

;)

Was looking at the DFW option for myself & SO so the above post was like deja vu. :p

Now whilst there isn't a huge difference between KUPPs ex HNL vs ex LAX to the Caribbean anything ex DFW is pretty much out of the race but some alternatives would be to.

a) Use a QF Classic partner award ex DFW to Caribbean in whY eg DFW/CUN (Cancun) is only 12,000 points plus negligible taxes. DFW/YYZ is also 12,000 points & from YYZ WestJet (WS) have some great fares non-stop to many places in Mexico & the Caribbean such as SJU, BGI, BDA, SXM, CUN, PVR, AUA, MBJ. For all the destinations see link below:

WestJet Route map

b) You could do a QF Classic partner award DFW/MIA or FLL then another one from there to xx_ in the Caribbean. It's still worth looking at KUPPs vs the cheapest one way discount economy airfare ex US East Coast to the Caribbean also as sometimes there's only a couple of hundred dollars in it.

You can then get a one way KUPP ex Caribbean to LAX or HNL then a JASA or PE back to MEL from there.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Looking at 2x JASAs for SYD-JNB next year. Not quite to the time required-march/april 2013.
When I look at 2 pax return I find plenty of availability at ~ 120000 level. However if I look at a one way either way the cost for 2 goes up to ~ 450000 each.
So is it easy to book a return JASA when the dates come up and then change the return date to what we would like later-would not be in school holidays.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

As posted, it depends upon the fare rules, they can vary quite markedly.

e.g. I have a fully flex MEL-LAX JASA booking for November which I can cancel or rebook to another flight (with U class availability). Last year I travelled on a SIN-MEL JASA where the fare had a SGD351 (IIRC) change fee.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Thanks serfty. So I clicked through to get T&Cs and the return JASAs are changeable on line-previously I was just checking which days were available.Interesting that the T&Cs for a one way JASA from JNB had the condition was only changeable by ringing the JNB office so I dont think I will do that.
Of course last night checking availabilities more days were available for one way awards at the lower points cost. Also an interesting anomaly on a one way JNB-SYD-business saver~456000,Business~126000 and First~85000 points. This was on the direct QF flight.Obviously F is unlikely next year but still a cheaper way of getting a J seat.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

What happens if one has a JASA return seat, and wants to return earlier or later to OZ is that possible and would there be additional charges?.

As with any fare booked you need to refer to the fare rules, which can be one of up to 5 variations of J depending on where you are travelling, so a definitive answer is not possible without looking at those rules.
