Do you need to travel for Christmas?
And will the timing work for you and your nearest and dearest?
Then book the FASA.
The SCs will give you a head start for the next year's status.

No chance of an extension of your QFF renewal date, I would wager.

Haha, yep, and I have to travel on this date specifically. I'll have just finished an internship with a firm in Singapore and will be going back home for (whats left of) christmas day.

Then go for it!
A FASA is a rather nice Christmas present to yourself! Enjoy.:D

Hey Guys, this is my first post on this forum, but there will definitely be more

ASA: SIN-MEL in First for 90,000+ $550 SGD (roughly 480AUD) + 180 Status Credits
Classic: SIN-MEL in First for 90,000

on christmas day

Seem worth it?

If it was me I would be taking the J option via SYD for 30000 points less.

It's Christmas.
FASA is a nice indulgence.
Entirely dependent on individual preference, of course.
But the flight via Sydney will take a few extra hours out of the Christmas day celebrations with the family in Melbourne.

On that point, fbrimfield:
You say you are flying on Christmas Day - but I assume you are on an overnight arrriving around 7am +1, if direct into Melbourne. Are you departing SIN on Christmas Eve, rather than Christmas Day?

Overnight in F is a waste for me, I much rather would do it on a day flight and save the points.

Yes, I understand the preference. And might even reluctantly agree on the shorter SIN-MEL run....
Not a done thing, though. It would depend on where I was transiting from and what was awaiting me at the other end. :)

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Talking about FASA's, can I confirm that they are fully refundable? Talk on various threads here indicate the they are if you call to cancel prior to travel.
Reason being is that I am looking at booking a FASA SYD-LHR return next year for the two of us. It comes in at 768,000 points plus $3,000 in cash on QF1/2 which I don't consider too bad given that to buy the actual flights would be around $40,000. The reason that I may need to cancel is that work does not sort the leave roster out until much closer and I may just not get the leave closer to the time but obviously have to book the flights his far in advance to avoid the 1,000,000 + point legs

You cannot say all FASAs are refundable, it depends on the fare rules of the fare, and many overseas FASAs would have a no refund condition.

Thanks Markis10,
Of course I understand that there are different fare rules. I should have included the rules that came up on the fare that I was looking at though. Please see attached. I am just a bit confused that it says before departure, full refund yet further down it says any refund or credit is the australian dollar price yet reports on here say that if you ring up to cancel you (on this particular fare) get a full refund of points plus any dollar about paid (no cancellation fee on this particular fare)

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I cannot really read that however there are only two First options Aus to UK, one is Full refund before departure so no issues for you, however if you select First Leisure there is no refund, luckily the real cheapies seem to be booking into First.

The T&C posted by Wannabee applies to First, rather than First Leisure.
BUT, as you point out, markis10, the conditions are quite different for the two classes, so the actual class needs to be checked carefully, Wannabee.

Curiously, the cheap options do seem to appear to be connected to the more generous sets of T&C.
A mystery to me - but you may have an answer from your much greater experience in this area, markis10?

Yep, the plan is i'll be coming in to SIN on CX759 (in First! Can't wait) at 13:00 on the 24th, and i'd like to leave that night (christmas eve), and there are a few options (QF2 or QF6, but i'd rather not get on an old 747), then get into SYD, and then onto HBA (family).

The thing is that when I plug SIN to HBA in on ASA, it only comes up with uber expensive options (aka 500,000 points), and then when I plug SIN to HBA in on Classic Award, it will only come up with SIN-PER-MEL-HBA or SIN-BNE-MEL-HBA (basically any route that doesn't have the A380). I know there is availability to do SIN-MEL-HBA or SIN-SYD-HBA in Classic, but it wont come up on the website - would it be a different story if I gave QF a ring?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Any reasoning why JASA's are so expensive these days, especially at the classic point level. $72+ for a SYD-MEL and 16,000 points.

Why can't you use the flight you quoted originally, then do a cheapie MEL-HBA or a similar option via SYD?

Fuel fines, my favorite one has gone from a base of 30K over a year ago to 37K now.

Good. And I don't understand that feature either.

My keyboard was acting up - I've swapped it now.

SYD-MEL has the following reward costs

Classic: 16,000+$32.95 or 20,850
JASA: 16,000+$79.31-->24,513+$0

The fees are now:

Serfty: That's a boring explanation. I was hoping for something much more interesting! :D

And it seems that the OP actually wants to get to Hobart. I think.
But he also says that he is flying in to SIN, rather than the original commencement in SIN, so there may still be confusion.
