Nicely done to both Warks and samh004! Once you go forward, you'll never want to go back

Ditto, this black duck just removed an ugly 6.30 DRW-CNS International J* leg and replaced it with a DRW-TSV JASA with Skybeds on the first leg and then a TSV-CNS DJ hop next day with hopefully a PE Taster thrown in ;), methinks its time to get more life insurance as well! Spending $200 of my own money along with 17K of QFF points to avoid JQ seems like great value to me when there is no F lounge to entice you on to JQ in the first place. The 140 SC with QF and 40 for DJ are icing!

Yes fiendish behaviour on FF points starts once you get a better seat and never want to go back.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Is there any reason why some JASAs are 30 odd thousand points (eg on the TSV-BNE-DRW route) and others are some ridiculous amount like 170K? Would anyone ever use that many points?

JASAs drop to what is close to classic award levels when there is classic award availability, once that bucket goes they skyrocket! Some routes seem to have quirks in terms of how the points are worked out, there is no logic to it besides the need to often travel in the wrong direction on a leg.

I've found availability for ASAs at Classic prices is a subset of Classic availability. Just 'cos you see it in Classic awards doesn't mean it'll be available as a well priced ASA. This can also work, for example, as your finding a great routing option in Classic but not finding the same routing at a nice price when searching for an ASA (albeit there may be more direct option available).

Okay thanks. I'd assume there's only one seat with the rock bottom points available on any flight? That's why it always says 'Hurry!'

Hurry means there is less than 5 and often there is more than 1 cheapie seat on offer if its a booking that is not in the near future.

.

Its certainly not a guarantee that a JASA will be available when a classic is on offer, however you will never see a cheap JASA when there is no classic awards, its probably related to the accounting used for the award flights being used as the "fare" for the purposes of working out the points required, although I have seen two different 30000 point JASAs have very different cash components with the same base level, not sure how that is!

I have found this variability relates to your status.

Qantas can and do vary Classic award availability depending on your "eliteness". I often see classic availability (especially in the premium buckets) when the GDS's are showing nothing.

I have found that if you see U/P/Z/X class availability on Expert Flyer/FlightStats then a "Cheap" ASA will generally available for the same flight as well.

This is also true if an NB "sees" classic award availability.

I have concluded from this that the "Cheap" ASA award availability does not come the from the 'special' elite classic award allocations.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Someone at QF must have been reading this thread :D

Just logged on and have seen the beautiful words: "POINTS ADJUSTMENT QF 663 BUSINESS 14AUG11 BRISBANE/ADELAIDE" and "POINTS ADJUSTMENT
QF 599 BUSINESS 14AUG11 ADELAIDE/PERTH" with the requisite points and SC's added.

Also, my JASA's from yesterday posted correctly and I got a 5K Loyalty Bonus...was a busy day in my account ;)

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Isn't it wonderful being a somebody with QF!

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

0 posting ASAs are usually resolved automatically. However, just like your regular points, it could be automatically after 1 day, or after 5 days.

Either way, I haven't had to ever chase up an ASA for miscrediting.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Sorry to be a newbie but I have only booked one JASA in my lifetime ..... and now I am looking a quick FASA somewhere in a few weeks time, and it says this:

Points and Status Credits are not earned when travelling on Qantas Any Seat Awards. Classed as First when Status Credits are earned on this fare.

Sooo should I still assume ffp/sc will still be earnt even though the above was given during the booking process.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Just booked first JASA ! BNE-HKG return 120k points and $500.......... how good is this!
A big thank you to markis10 :mrgreen:

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Returned from my first J any seat award flight (paid by points + cash, mentioned it in earlier page on this thread) yesterday and all points and SCs awarded as expected - got me over the gold level for this year, thanks again to markis10 for starting this thread. Didn't know how much I was going to miss gold until it happened, amazing how far back your seat selection starts when you are silver compared to when you are gold.

I don't recall seeing this message (posted by Alanslegal): "Points and Status Credits are not earned when travelling on Qantas Any Seat Awards. Classed as First when Status Credits are earned on this fare." when I made my booking, have any of the moderators or super-J any seat award flight redeemers noticed it or had it enforced? (damn, why can't I get rid of these italics? Sorry, don't seem to respond to unitalicising!) Or is it only applicable if you only use points for the redemption, and if you pay with some cash it no longer applies?

Thats a hangover from before the rules changed, no reason why an ASA excl J* should not earn points.

That's weird! I believe (certainly hope so, for your sake and mine, as I have some JASA/FASA booked :shock:) markis10 is correct in his assertion that it is a 'hangover'.

From the program T&Cs (my bolding):

9.4 Points Are Not Earned on All Flights

9.4.1 Points are not earned for travel on:
(a) flights or booking classes that are not listed in or are excluded in the Airline Earning Table;
(b) infant fares (infant fares do not include infants travelling in their own paid seat);
(c) charter flights;
(d) freighter flights;
(e) free tickets or Qantas & Partner Classic Awards;
(f) travel industry rebated tickets;
(g) competition prize tickets;
(h) transport other than air transport unless specified by Qantas;
(i) tickets acquired at an auction;
(j) tickets which are subject to any specific provisions excluding the accumulation of Points; or
(k) Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award bookings originally made before 23 March 2010.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Well with bookings running for less than a year there would not be any left that would not earn appropriate points and status credits so there is no issue for current Any Seat flights.
