re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

On the whole a fairly reasonable adjustment to the program, as it's rare for an 'enhancement' to actually give something back. But for me the problem is earning enough points so the 15% online discount was more valuable than the expensive fuel fines.

I'm glad they gave plenty of warning and lucky we were planning a redemption in the near future. So I've spent all my points and unlikely to go to any effort to earn SQ points anymore.

Is 3 weeks really plenty of warning?

I find Citibank to be pretty good for Kris Miles accumulating. Westpac Kris Flyer Amex works great as well but is not available for new applicants.

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

On a star alliance itinerary, no I think this would be backtracking, travelling 16,000 miles to cover a 7,500 mile point to point distance. SQ have fairly strict rules around backtracking on star alliance awards, that don't necessarily apply to SQ only awards.

Thanks for the reply. Assume this would be he case for any USA point of origin then given its always shorter to return over the pacific? Not even somewhere very close to NYC is going to work.

Ignoring ATO spend, would not other Amexes that generate 2 or 3 KF Points per $ be better?

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

Amex Platinum Edge for Woolies gift cards would fit but that is quite limited for us but probably less so for others on this forum. Our household today is three so we don't do too much Woolies or Coles and the like.
I have activated the Amex Platinum Edge but haven't used it as I have quite a stack of 5% off e gift cards from Coles, Woolworths and 10% off David Jones ones

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

Citibank letter told me Delta Sky Mile transfers finish near the end of March so that means more Kris Flyer Miles or Virgin points from then on.

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

Compared to the Citibank debacle last year, yes.

And enough time for people to "pre-book" a whole bunch of award tickets, in the hope that after end of March, can just change dates of those tickets without issue.

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

i have a star alliance redemption ticket departing on 24/3. I wonder if it's possible force a reissue on 23/3 without changing flight time/class/route and get approx $400 per person of YQ back?

The changes are for Krisflyer Awards and not Star Alliance Awards made through Krisflyer.

You would need to read up on what the cancellations/change conditions are for such awards.

Also does your *A redemption have any SQ legs?

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

One assumes this means revenue ticket

Indeed means a revenue ticket. Good thing is, you can buy the cheapest bucket ticket (i.e. D?), but still not the cheapest compared to say QF (free infants on redemption bookings) or BA (10% of avios)

yes I understand the change is for krisflyer awards, but I also read that they will be removing YQ for SQ legs in star alliance awards too. Yes I have 2 SQ R legs in my FCO-FRA-SIN-SYD booking.

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

I had a really bad feeling when I saw the headlines for this change. Upon digging deeper, whilst it isn't great, it could have been so much worse. And good on SQ for ditching YQ on award bookings - about time!

Now which other airline, popular around these parts, could do with culling YQ from award bookings?.... They'd probably focus on the other aspects of the enhancements though....

Hahaha, very funny. The could start by standardizing it (down) such that the YQ on a one way ticket LAX-MEL is same as MEL-LAX not about 3x as much.

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

Just as a point of interest, do these airlines who keep changing the rules/benefits, ever get a huge back-lash? My annual travels do not allow me much carrier choice if I want direct services, and I have never been able to upgrade on points and rarely able to get a return trip totally on points. I am just a small fish in a large pond!! :-P

Some backlash sure, but I suspect not huge. Human nature is such that people complain about these things but the percentage that actually do anything about it seems to be low and (cynical though it may be) most companies are very aware of this.

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

Waitlisted 4 saver awards for January 2018 yesterday. Today all the waitlisted awards are showing as not available for savers in the search. Surely I did not take the last available waitlist position on all 4 flights?? I'm probably being over optimistic here, but I'm hoping that means a higher chance of clearence pre-devalutation.

Does anyone know how many people can waitlight per flight?

re: " o noes! " - Singapore enhances redemption rates

Or the seats been booked by full playing?

Oh. There's still standard awards available so I didn't think it would have been revenue passengers taking up the seats? New at KrisFlyer awards. Definitely a learning curve with the waitlisting!
