OOL Lounge

It certainly was pouring with rain. Whilst my flight was being diverted and subsequently cancelled I had plenty of time to check the lack of progress.

Good time to have a lounge to access......

Anytime is a good time to have a lounge at OOL - the place is nothing more than a junk food outlet for bogans.

/flame suit /

Isnt that just the Gold Coast in General?

/suit off/

Sorry, couldnt resist.

I guess it is good for Status Runs if nothing else. A little OT - I lived in Brisbane for over 20 years and I visited the coast less than half a dozen times. So I'm not likely to disagree. But in fairness it is a great place to take the kids - I now have a 4 year old and for him the theme parks are heaven.

Haha, agreed - I could never live there, but it is fun to visit.

Apologies to all the Gold Coast residents.

This is from Wednesday... (I'm not a builder but) this looks like they are extending the 1st level flooring across the whole area between Gate 2 and 3.

I'd expect that most work would happen after hours: it's much easier to regulate getting tools into the security area when pax are not in the terminal (and besides, it'd also avoid a bunch of you guys/gals complaining about the noise while waiting for your plane  )

Oh good, I thought we were going to go for over 48hrs without getting another picture update from someone.

You raise a good point about construction tools in the terminal.

I can't speak for other AFF members, but the reason why I always post pictures on this thread is because I'm sitting at OOL bored out of my mind (trying to avoid bogans) with nothing else to do but with the Lounge was done!

And already the OOL airport is looking too small

If any of you are interested, check out the new master plan for the gold coast airport. It gives an idea of the type of expansion/development that will take place in the next 5-to-10-to-20 years. It will be very interesting to see if the Commonwealth games announcement will bring forward some of the work, although I'm sure they considered the likelihood of a successful bid as part of the master plan development process. The plan is available on their web site.

Liam, don't forget that a majority of the activity at the Gold Coast airport is an inbound market, so most of the "bogans" are actually southerners! (Much to the relief of Gold Coast residents, I'm sure ;)) For the record, I don't live on GC.

Actually, as far as i can tell the majority of the activity at the Gold Coast airport is actually Liam.

Great Shot! Glad Virgin is taking over this end of the terminal as it will be the middle of the terminal once the extension to the building takes place south over the coming years.
I was wondering how the lounge would get a good runway view and here it is. That western sun beaming in on the afternoon is going to be a problem though.

Will try for another pic update next week when I fly back in.

And yes as a GC resident I concur that most of the bogans are imported trash from southern states ;) No offence to those living south of the border :D

For the edification of AFFers, I provide the mandatory update:

As of 1020 today, there was NO activity at all.

I will be on deck to provide tomorrow's update approximately 22 hours from now. What progress will we see by then? Photos will of course be provided.

They are the ones that when you are flying home can't find the toilet at the front of the aircraft, not to worry with J class coming in across the majority of the fleet they wont get past the rope at the start of row 3. A proud GC Resident.

And I have next Monday and Wednesday covered for an update. Surely with this many supervisors it will be a work of art when it is finished.:lol:

+1 777, I wonder if the staff have missed LiamR whilst he's been on holidays :D

Yes Yes Yes. I know they aren't really Gold Coasters, just imports from down south. Just having a laugh.

LW - Sadly, I know most of them and they all know I'm not going to be around for a while. So nobody will be wearing a suit at OOL till the 16th

Hey DGW, is this your status run flight?

Do you still want a drinking partner at OOL? I could drop down for a catch up. As it's raining here today, I'd wager you won't be walking over to the beach!!
