they might as well go ahead and order those aerobridges they forgot about.....

Won't be happening. The new draft plan for the airport has no aerobridges. The Airport management want the tropical feel when people arrive.(sic)[/QUOTE]

If the airport mgt had ever actually arrived at a tropical airport they would quickly realise how unappealing walking across tarmacs in blazing hot sun with high humidity is, toting luggage up and down stairs. Not to mention the pure delight of disembarking into a monsoon unprotected. This wouldnt happen to be the same airport mgt who incidentally re-modelled cairns with its mile long hikes to gates without airconditioning would it? Wonderful idea to be walking under a tin clad hot box for 10 mins before queuing up to get onto an aircraft in the tropics.

That kind of caper might be fine for developing nations where you expect to be in luck if the toilets flush. But was 2nd world impoverished nation really what they were going for in OOL?

They already have them. But why would you bother for a 20 second fast walk.

You would be saturated just trying to fold the umbrella

It wasn't that long ago that you had to walk across the tarmac at ADL for all flights. They've since built a new modern terminal with aero-bridges.

When I passed through OOL recently it certainly seemed busier than ADL when I've been there. I'm not sure how much busier ADL is than OOL, but I would think that OOL deserves to have aero-bridges.

IMHO Adl is the best of the airports in Oz. Serene appearance, gate lounges far and away from the noisy food joints. Nice tarmac views. That was money well spent.

It's called a low cost terminal for a reason. Aerobridges cost over a million bucks each. Not same airport mgt as Cairns (very close a few years ago though, when the state govt sold off CNS). Besides there are enough fatties around these days- good for them to get some exercise & sauna in one (referring to the CNS walk, that is). At OOL, it's the low cost model that has made it so successful.

I must admit that I don't mind the CNS arrival. Out of the aero-bridge and onto the covered walk-ways into the terminal.

I remember when Brisbane was little more than an old WWII hangar and there certainly were no aerobridges there then. And Perth well it too has only relatively recently come to terms with more modern airport concepts. Lot's of airports around Europe with no aerobridges or aircraft parking out on Tarmac in much more adverse weather conditions - though it is mostly directly from Shuttle Bus to Plane and VV.

We seem to have gone off topic, it is a thread about the DJ OOL lounge. It has been days without an update. Any construction work happening this week?

No visible changes on my return home tonight. Most of the work is being done overnight at this stage, hence very few, if any workers on site during the day. Much of the building industry shuts down for christmas next week so I don't expect much progress until mid to late January.

Yes, apparently it will eventually have a floor and walls, they are still looking into the feasibility of a door but rumors are they have already placed an order for one.

Stop mucking around and get to the important issue, will it have a toaster and what size will the pancakes be!
