OOL Lounge

Didn't get a chance for pics today. Spent my time in the bar over a couple of beers with swanning_it. For the record though, nothing new to report.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly

Have a look at the construction hoarding (mesh you can see through) and the crowds below. Work is happening but not during operating hours, at least not until the "shell" is finished, then it will be full throttle until our "DJ OOL Lounge AFF Soirèe" (DOLAS). Those RSJs and floor joists didn't fly up there themselves......a Franna would have been required at least and I can't see them doing that amongst the luggage and paxs!

Speaking of which, I don't think I've ever seen OOL as busy as this morning........obviously still cash out there to spend on holidays!

For the record.......and to please Liam, I greeted DGW in true bogan style. Collarless shirt, bright blue shorts, unshaven with sockless runners. Sorry, couldn't bring myself to the thongs though (of either variety). Great to catch up again DW, always good to chat with another FFer!

It honestly looks like a food court - there is nothing airport like about it

Dear lord, I've never seen OOL so crowded. Would have been a total nightmare getting through that terminal in once piece. I guess it's this time of year when the Gold Coast gets quite busy. Glad to see you are wearing the appropriate Gold Coast attire.

To quote Pam Ann, the comedian. "It's like a shopping centre with a runway attached"

That's what it is, Noob. I was there last week. The gate lounges are actually food courts. There's no seating other than to sit it the food area, from what I could see.

The sooner the lounge opens, the better.

I'd just like to express my disappointment. It's been over 48hrs and there hasn't been an update on the progress of the lounge.

I leave Australia for two weeks and look what has happened to the quality of reporting? Jeez.

Well there is that row of planes outside that you don't normally see at a shopping centre food court.......

Sat morning, OOL resembled a DJ parking lot. At one point there were 4 DJ aircraft lined up at gates 2,3,4 & 5 with one lonely looking JQ at gate 6. It looks like DJs committment to OOL is paying dividends as I'd say the majority of those throngs of pax pictured above, were flying DJ!

lol yeah maybe I missed that haha...

That's pretty good for VA, I thought OOL would have been a JQ safe seat - i.e. price sensitive leisure market - what that says to me is VA was correct in saying it hasn't turned its back on this significant part of the market, because really if they do, Qantas group market share will get bigger than 65%....

I assume that this lounge will also service International flights.

There are several daily trans Tasman flights by VA and Air NZ which would boost lounge numbers.

Someone help me out here, I'm not familiar with this airport. I have two questions...

Isnt that an aircon duct running right through the mezzanine level at below head height... ?interesting interior decor feature.

Isnt the mezzanine level above the window height? If so, then how will it have a tarmac view.

It must be you leading the pack Liam. You leave and it winds down, you come back and off it goes again. ;)

It's still under construction. What you see now, is not the finished product:p. There's another 4 months to go yet, so anything's possible.

It will be a carbon copy of the DJ Chairmans club at Metricon

Funny thing about ducts......they can be relocated .......That won't be an issue. I think it's been said the roof is being raised (prior to our "DJ OOL Lounge AFF Soirèe"), but I'm unsure as to whether that was idle gossip (heaven forbid) or factual. By the look of that mezzanine, there's more then a good chance it's true .

The lounge looks like it will eventually have a lovely unobstructed view over the apron!

Sounds expensive. But since they are modifying the DFO....I mean airport anyway, they might as well go ahead and order those aerobridges they forgot about.....

Won't be happening. The new draft plan for the airport has no aerobridges. The Airport management want the tropical feel when people arrive.(sic)

It's never happened when I've been there, but it does rain at OOL on occasion does it not? How do they cope with that?
