Thing is on Ebay...they have had $500 cards going for only $420.....

So for me it does not add up.....

Also one seller has also been selling Coles Cards as well as the wish cards......so you wonder what his edge is..

lovetravellingoz,

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I'll be buying a couple of vouchers but they will be only what we need :!:

For me on $500 ..the points would be worth about $80......ir just over 1.5 cents per point.

But perhaps the seller has Business class upgrades in mind????.......either that or they have not worked out their conversion rates properly!!!!

Lets seea Melb- london return Business class seat = 256,000 points.

Dividing by 11.5 points = $22,261 of Bonus Card spend...so if you redeem $420 out $500 that will cost you $4452 for business class seat.

My value is considerably higher as I use them for RTW business tickets or other long haul upgrades.

Some people actually receive these as gift cards, and want to sell them off, since they can't use them.

I was just mentioning the gift card discount rates, to show that almost anyone can get these at cheaper rates, hence less demand, and lower prices on eBay.

I still do not see how that explains a powerseller selling quitea large number of them on ebay....with say $500 going for $420-455. 5% off would be $475.

A gift may explain an odd seller selling off one....but not a powerseller selling large numbers of them.

Either he gets them really cheap......or he hasa Business or First Class redemption in mind.

Considering that the business class seat is roughly $10k (for return), that's a pretty good redemption rate. First is about $17k. You'll get even better bang for buck if you're getting a one-way award, since the one-way cost is almost the same as the return.

Well if you lashed out on $45,000 of gift cards or eletrical goods...you could get two business class returns to London.

Selling them at a loss on ebay...may see you with 2 tickets for $9000....is that half price????

What is the going rate for a discount business class ticket to London return (yes full Qantas price is $10K) ?

Or spend $15,600 to fly Upper Class with Virgin Atlantic (180,000 points)for a London return (worth $7500 on Webjet)

Ebay party over????

I note that the people selling multiple lots of the Wishcards have stopped....and it says that the items have been withdrawn.

So I had a peek at the wishcard t&c..

9.1 WISH Gift Cards may be used as personal or business gifts, but must not be used in connection with any marketing, advertising or other promotional activities (including without limitation in websites, internet advertisements, email, telemarketing, direct mail, newspaper and magazine advertisements, and radio and television broadcasts) unless you obtain our prior written approval.

But the cards on Ebay are not used as marketing activities. It's not like they are some sort of Ebay promotion.

In any case, if there's a breach of the terms, it's only a breach of contract between Wishcard and the seller and nothing to do with Ebay.

I did not state that Ebay had withdrawn it nor that they were an ebay promotion........just that they were now gone.

My point being...is that the cards have suddenly been withdrawn......and I was speculating why....

Whether Wishcard directly contacted the seller I know not....I was just posting that Powersellers who were selling bulk lots of the $500 cards very cheaply are no longer there.

There is howevera single lot of one $100 one..

Thanks to the OP for this one. I ran through a test transaction yesterday on my Corporate Amex with Ascent rewards not expecting much luck but the points posted. :D (my personal Earth+ doesn't seem eligible)

I guess everyone I've forgotten about for Christmas so far will be getting vouchers. ;) :p

As an aside, I'll be valuing these points at approximately ~$USD200 per 8000 bonus points earnt- the price of a one way AA flight YUL-JFK that I'd have to pay for, if (fingers crossed) I'll be based in Montreal at the end of next year.

So spend $727 (8000 points/11 points per $) to earn ~$200USD seems like a pretty good deal. :p

(I hope the logic makes sense but i notice someone asked how much to value the points at)

Given that the Wish Cards purchased from D!ck Smith can be used at places like Woolworths/Safeway, Big W, Caltex etc, they make a very good way to earn the bonus on your regular shopping spending. No need to purchase electrical goods.

I needed to purchase an iPod as a Christmas present yesterday. So I purchased a $500 Wish Card using my Amex, then promptly handed the Wish Card over to purchase the iPod. Then off to Big-W for some more present shopping, then to Woolworths for the pre-Christmas grocery shopping, and filled up the bus at Woolworths/Caltex on the way home. There was still enough value on the card to give it to Mrs NM to use when she went out to complete the Christmas shopping experience last night.

MR points have already credited.

I think I might get another one or two $500 Wish Cards before the promo expires since we spend a reasonable amount just on groceries at Woolworths anyway. And when it costs around $90 just to fill the tank on the bus, it won't be too long and the spend will be spent.

Now that's just bragging about your domestic efficiency ;)

I have bought (imo) excessive amounts of Wish Cards & small purchases (ipods etc) and earnt now, close to 100k points ;) but the comment I get from the sales staff is "nice idea for a xmas present" ... "its good these Wish Cards" .... "they must be very special people for these Wish Cards" .... "very simple gift ideas" etc.... and I always smile, nod my head in agreement whilst thinking "thank you amex"

I wonder what responses i would get post christmas when i do a series of final Wish Card purchases.........
