Not sure on timing.

MR points can be transferred to QF - the post within hours. I basically channel my Amex points to QF for flight upgrades - 3/4 to F this year :D

Sony Central advertised in the weekend Sunday Herald their full HD LCD tv specials. The W series full HD in 130cm is $4999 or 116cm is $3399 which is fantastic deal......
Wow, $5000 for a television! If we watched the same movie would your $5000 television show different scenes to my 10 year old $500 NEC television?

Same scene but I hope the quality of colours, the clarity, etc is better :p

Just like would you fly F over Y when it takes you to the same place ;)

Hmm, I do have to do something with my TV. I have the surround sound going, just need a decent TV.... (actually the new Pioneer 50 inch plasma looks good!)

Ok....has anyone bought a Good Guys Gift Voucher...and had the 10 Bounus points post????

Now bare with me...the Gift Voucher is only for their stores...so why buy it and not the item direct???

Well the Good Guys make you pay another 5-10% if you use a CC:mad: ...as their whole selling strategy is that you pay less for cash...so hence they havea large difference between the cash price and if you pay by CC.

But here is the loophole that I have spotted...if you pay witha Gift Card it is treated as cash....and when you buy the Gift Card there is no mark up...$400 on a Gift Card cost you only the $400...but you can then use the Gift Card as cash in the store.....:D

So question is does the gift card qualify for the 10 bonus points. The Wish card at DSE would suggest yes...but has anyone bought one???

Not when F is 10 times the price of WHY!

Actually it will show different scenes as the HD TV can then show blu ray/HD DVD movies that have more content on them.

It depends on what you watch and how you watch it - if you are not a big movie/sports fan then you wont get much difference - also comparing oranges and apples as well. Would you compare domestic J with long haul J?

Or Qantas with Tiger.........

With different dialogue? Nah!

I am not very fussy. Most times I am just happy watching a movie on the screen on the back of the seat in front in the WHY cabin. I could not care less about picture definition or clarity.

I will more than likely buy a HD LCD TV when the price is down to $500.

Yes there is a difference there that some people would appreciate. For me the price differential between J and WHY is too high to justify the spend. Even the price differential between proposed Y+ and WHY is too high to justify the spend.

By the way this does not mean that I would not travel J. The next RTW I am planning would more than likely be in J as I have had a fruitful 6 months of FF point collecting and I don't have the time or the excess money to plan 2 RTWs in WHY.

Ok, got a $400 Wish Gift Card at DSE yesterday. Used it for some purchases that I was going to make anyway. Even used it at a self-service checkout at Big W Chermside, too.

Got me thinking, has anyone tried to deposit money from the Gift Card into their Woolworths Ezy Action account?

I don't know...but I do know that they do not allow cash out from the card...it states it on the back.

So I suspect not.

Well have done some Xmas shopping for my 3 kids this weekend...and the deal has worked well.

It is great how you can bargain down a really cheap rate on an item....and then know that you get a further effective 15% off as well.

ie a mini stereo for my daughter.

List price $209....bargained down to $186.....and then use the AMEX:D.

An already reduced camera on a clearnce price of $249 (which at two other stores was still listed for almost $400!!!).

With a bit of luck I might just snare about 100,000 ish points out of this......with out really going out of my way too much as with the normal Xmas spend I would have been on the hunt for presents anyway, except to effectively "buy" my groceies and fuel in advance for say 5/6 months...

ie Groceries and fuel by Dec31 . Say $1500
For Post Dec 31 say another $5000

Phone credit in advance (for the 3 kids pre-a paid phones) ..say $500

Household goods.....still tossing up on a new washer....but say $1000 even if I don't.

Xmas presents ....say $2000

Total..say a minimum of $10,000 = 100,000 points...plus the normal 15,000 points I would have gained anyway.

The large variety of stores has allowed good bartering of prices, even on small items....and so the bons is a genuine bonus as I gain it on top of economical spend.

So a nice Xmas present for me;)...and bit of luck for me as I had only just taken out the Maximisera month back.

If I do end get the washer etc.....another 5 to 10k may come my way....

Well the TV/Freezer was purchased and was able to pay only $3200 against a list price of $4299 - so I think I did ok :)

So far 50K+ points from this promotion - two F upgrades on QF :D

Better still - a new monitor... from Dell

Or a Nintendo Wii...

I don't think that using Amex points to get goods (that you could otherwise buy on your Amex, and get even more bonus points) is the best value...

Anyway, points posted for me:

08/12/2007 D1CK SMITH ELECTRONICS TOOMBUL QLD $416.98 417 4,170 4,587

Surprised to see that they round up for the 10x bonus. In case you didn't know, $400.50 will give you 401 points (on 1x amex), and 4010 bonus points.

Just buy some electronic components worth 50c to make the difference.

Just part of the purchase approval process - much easier to get approval for a free Wii and to forgoe and upgrade to F than suggesting we pay for a Wii just so I can have better champagne when flying by myself ;)

Still, the Wii is only $348 at Big W, which you can purchase on a Wish Gift Card. I'm sure one of your cousins here, would be happy to exchange $348 for 59,000 QF points or the like.

If you're purchasing $8600-$9050 worth of Wish Gift Cards, you could get 100000 Velocity Rewards points, and get free Lounge Membership.

100000 Velocity Rewards points = 1 Return trip on Virgin Atlantic
100000 Velocity Rewards points = $1000 Myer/David Jones voucher

Assuming you sell off the gift cards, and loose 5% on the face value of each of them, you be ahead. Even if you lost 6% on each of them you'd be ahead, plus have 100000 Velocity Rewards points

I wonder when we will start to see these gift cards for sale on EBay

There are already frequent sales of Wish cards (and other types of prepaid store vouchers) on Ebay. We'll probably see a lot more over the coming months though :)
