Optus $99/Mth Sim Only Plan - 60,000 Qf Pts

BANG! Points in the account! And a week before the 4th payment. I’ll be porting back to Telstra early next week.
Hmm, could you share what date your Optus account was activated? I assume it would be late July if it's still a week before 4th payment?

I'm still missing my points, but it seems from this thread that everyone else has gotten theirs.

saw mine this morning, couple of days after the 4th payment.

I haven't got my points yet but I didn't sign up on the first day of the offer, so will give it another day or so before I follow up.

I'm going to cancel it too. Any easiest way for cancellation? Do we need to call Optus?

If you don't want to speak to anyone, you could port out on a $2 Telstra or $2 Vodafone SIM and leave it.

Otherwise, messaging in the app is usually fastest.

Thanks. Just messaged in the app and had it cancelled.
Can confirm cancelling via the app is super quick, done in less than 5 minutes.

I assume anyone who took one or more of these up in addition to maintaining an existing service can easily cancel but are peeps having difficulty porting off to another provider? Curious how easy/hard that currently is post data breach?

Cancelled via messaging through App. Tried every trick to get me not to cancel. Then started asking me about the points which I ignored. Had to ask 5x before I got service cancelled. Just received an SMS and email saying service is now cancelled!

I just told them I feel so offended that my privacy was abused and shocked, that I have zero faith in the company anymore. They didn't say anything to me, in fact I even tried to get some credit for their incompetence, I didn't push too hard but they are offering a few extra benefits.

Have ordered my new Telstra month to month plan. Sim will hopefully arrive Monday or Tuesday then I will be done with Optus. Unfortunately could not see an option for an e-sim (although it apparently exists) otherwise I’d already be gone.

I ported to Belong (the Jetstar of Telstra) and my new SIM was active in 20 mins. Just had to give my number, an OTP code it sent to my number and the account number on my Optus bill. No driver's license 😂

Thanks. That’s actually reassuring for Optus customers not wanting to switch.

Following up with a optus now on messaging service for points and they told me the following

Bonus Qantas Points will be earned in installments of 5,000 points at the end of month 3, 6, 9 or 12 from your service activation date if you stay continuously connected, up to the maximum total of bonus points offered.

have asked them to go back and find the right offer and advise when payment will be made, I signed up in July

I think it is has been very clear over the past weeks that Optus has no idea on a lot of fronts.

Got the points yesterday, one day before my 4th payment.

ported my number to Kogan for 1 moth at $2.90 until I decide on the provider for next 12 months. Verified with Optus via message that as long as I port by end of today (the billing day) I will not be charged for the 4th month. Took screenshots just in case because Optus is not exactly the company to be trusted…

My +1 account activated on the 18th and didn’t get her points yet. Fingers crossed next few days before the 18th.

Well a good lesson was had. 60,000 points for $400 and my identity was a terrible deal - I’ll be more discerning in future.

At least we didn’t have to fight for the points.
Except that breach could have happened to anyone. Hackers will get into any organisation if they try hard enough. The best security professionals I know took a deep breath that it wasn't their company.

They left an API exposed. Sure, anyone's house could be broken in to. The one where the front door is left open is more likely to be broken in to.

My cancellation was relatively simple, but drawn out. Wanted to know why I was leaving, and what plan I was looking for or going to. I just replied ‘I have identified a suitable plan, thanks’. They advised me of the consequences… once I cancel ‘you won’t be able to keep using the service’.

Result! :)
