Optus to cease offering QFF points as of 30/06/15

My 2nd mobile broadband will now go over to Telstra too.
Can at least bank on Coles supermarkets for bonus Flybuys points.
Or Woolworths for normal EDR points thus QF FF points. Base rate of course.
I stayed with Optus purely for QF FF points.
Mobiles are locked to Optus though but not mobile broadband device.

Yes, and also because Telstra are better!
As soon as my contract ends in the end of this year I'm jumping ship.
And Telstra offer points?

And better comes with a premium. Am I wrong in assuming 12G mobile broadband costs $200? I cannot justify spending that much of my own money when I can get 17.5G for $130. Even if it is inferior.

And what is their minimum plan for a mobile phone/month including phone? $55? Way too much.

Waffle turned on for a while:
Telstra itself does not offer points, base or bonus.
But for the time being, Flybuys do, even though their earn rate might be lousy.
Just on a holding pattern from either 01 Jul or when as soon as the current bonus points come to my QF FF account, I am off to Telstra.
Edit: yes, 12GB for $200. Their elite broadband device lasts me half the day, even without a power bank.
Also, when I fly to coop to NZ, $29 per 100MB (yes, I have used it several times already), is very good. Can recharge from NZ even, when I check my account.
I once bought a $49 Optus prepaid overseas use bundle, and the stupid thing didn't work.
I took across the elite broadband device, and it worked a treat. Had bought $29 (prepaid)before I went, and it let me use my credit card to buy more $30 recharges with an Aust visa/mastercard debit, and then swap that with $29 Telstra overseas use bundle.

I've had three missed calls over the last two days from 03 9033-4560. an online search shows that its Optus telemarketing. My contract is up soon so I guess they have something to offer.

We can only prepay (on prepaid) Optus mobile phone and broadband services, phone for 6 months and broadband for 12 months only, not much help if we have already, as I have, the offer of 3,000 QF FF points.
Not sure if you prepay whether your offer goes up, or stays the same.

I'm only getting 500 points, so not happy with that, though I am only on a $50 a month plan which expired last July. Been planning to move, but hadn't found anything much I liked.

I am a little unsure of the wording about payment of the bonus points. We are told that the scheme ends June 30th and we have to still be with Optus at that to qualify for the bonus which will be paid at end of July. Are they being sneaky by making us stay till August 1st to get our bonus? Or if we fulfil our obligation to maintain our Optus account until July 1st, we get our bonus? The wording on this is tricky to say the least.

Others here seem to think we must spend an extra month with Optus to claim our bonus. Not happy about that blackmail.

One $50 account is small fry in the scheme of things, I am not sure why you are expecting much more than 500 points?

The letter I received from Optus during the week says the bonus points will be paid at the end of July provided the account and service that is earning Qantas points if still active.

Easy for me with a prepaid mobile service. Will probably drop in 2x $30 recharges.

Considering I've earned a total of about 190 points with a few $30 recharges and will be getting 500 bonus points, someone paying $50 a month should probably get more.

In a flyer in the Advertiser, Telstra now has a prepaid mobile broadband thing called an annual pass and a 2 year pass.
$50, yes, $50 gives 5 GB and its a year, while its small GB, but its also a small commitment, and if you use more, you just need to top up more often, 12 months validity.
$140 gives 16 GB, 2 years validity.
Wow, someone at Telstra is listening.
Now all they need to do is give us the beloved, and a lot of people will just ship after end of June, I am alread ready to start with Telstra for my 2nd wifi pod.
It might be all old news, but it was news to me though.
Optus cleared off my unused broadband balance, but Telstra promises to rollover your unused data and recharge credit.
Bravo.

I had a thought the other day.

I have been stuck on a $80 plan for about 5years, due to having a blackberry as a personal phone. Not one of my friends have ever needed to be on such a high plane. Optus recently brought out (to me) crazy low plans. I will be able to get unlimited cals and texts, and double my data for $40 a mth.

I wonder if this is truly just a cost cutting exercise now that they have serverly cut plan costs?

Ie their new rewards is simple lower plans?

I guess it works both ways - lower cost plans also means they have to give out fewer points.

Ozgirl, Telstra also has a $40 monthly prepaid plan, for that you get 2 GB of data, plus unlimited talk and text. But at the moment, seeing Telstra has no bonus points earn to QF or VA, maybe just stick with Optus, or if you can, go Virgin postpaid. Reasoning below.
I am surprised these days that to buy a mobile broadband device, (maybe its the same for mobile phones), no more form filling.
You just have to show 2 forms of id and thats it, you get the phone, this is for prepaid.
Post paid, they would probably still want information on income/employer/ABN #...
If I didnt already have 2 locked prepaid phones to Optus, I would go Telstra, on their $40 monthly prepaid plan. Includes that 2 GB data.
If you are with Optus post paid for $40, you might as well go for Virgin (linked company to Optus), and get their postpaid plan, which can earn VR FF points.

I am on Optus mobile broadband. I purchased 17.25 GB recently. May not need to top up again until September.

I am still using mobile broadband. Am I still a customer in July?

2K QFFP have been credited yesterday.
Too bad I can't leave Optus until December.
