OK I am willing to make a bet he wont break all his promises.

Well the standard you've demanded of the Labor party is not breaking any promise regardless of the circumstances. Surely you would expect the Liberal party to achieve the same standard you demand of the opposition?

And Mr.Rudd came to be Prime Minister with only one promise that I heard-that he would not challenge for the leadership. So a 100% record for brokem promises.

Ah but times change and we have to adapt isn't that the eternal excuse trotted out.

All that changed was that he had the numbers and his ego took over

Of all the Labour pollies that spoke last night, Carr sounded the most like leadership material, unfortunately he carries more baggage than a Qantas ground handler (and is in the Senate)

Peter Beattie sounded pretty good.........but not get sucked into making that mistake.

Coalition 1.14 for the election, they were 1.18 yesterday so doesn't look like the bookies are running scared of Kev13 if anything they think he makes an ALP victory even less likely, which is surprising

Hopefully now the attacks on Abbott can be on his policies rather than some misguided and divisive men/wmone debate.

Have to agree with this. The minute that he announces a policy, any policy on anything at all, it will be a great pleasure to give it a bit of, errr, analysis.

It will be interesting to see if the media now stops giving him a free ride, but pigs will fly on that one as well I suspect.

No, no, no, its that the country NEEDED him... AND the party... Even if some of the semi smiles were pinched like a cat's backside...

To get in and immediately say that unity is needed after 3 years of sniping, undermining and criticising his own and a couple of failed challenges gives new meaning to the term rank hypocrite... Hopefully a few of the new backbenchers repay him in kind...

I think Mark Latham would also have to be one off the most unhappiness guys in Australia at the moment... :)

Seeing that Kev never saw an overseas trip at tax payer's expense that he didn't like, it wouldn't surprise me...

He is one of the Ministers I actually like. And the water Minister, he has done some good things for Lake Alexandrina in SA.

There's a funny story though. We have a small shack right on the Lakefront, at Clayton Bay, which, when where was dire problems with SA salinity and the Lake drying out, all the media would tramp down to our tiny little village and show vials of horrid water.

Well, with the floods up north, we now have water. A few months ago we noticed that a large block vegetation right in front of our place was dead/dying. Now this is Crown Land, water front, and protected. A few days later, there was a Major Federal Water announcement. And there, standing on the now very dead and flattened vegetation was the Federal Water Minister, making this grand announcement. The Feds had killed off the large area of natural vegetation for the Minister to make his announcement.

No I haven't.Just commented on Mr.Rudd's one promise.

Apart from this part of last night speech:

"And for the Australians that depend on the success of your businesses to have a job, to have decent living standards and opportunities. Business is a group that this Government will work with very closely. What I want to see here in Canberra is for business and Labor to work together I don't want to see things that drive business and Labor apart. We've been natural partners in the past and we can be again in the future. I intend to lead a Government that brings people together and gets the best out of them."

And then doing this today:

Crossbench support helps 457 visa crackdown bill pass Lower House - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Now I know that the PM was caught on the hop a bit from the events of last night but did he really really need to push that through as the first order of business in the lower house?

Guess that means Gillard's 457 man is looking for work. Wouldn't he have to leave now he has no work? He sure was someone who didn't understand Australian society.

"Reflecting on the dramatic events in Canberra yesterday, Farrell told InDaily the mood in the ousted PM’s office was one of relief and that Kevin Rudd was a changed man, ahead of an election on August 24."

August 24 sounds good the sooner the better

I think they've got 28 days to either leave or find another sponsor.

Didn't think you would.

Tony Windsor is also quitting, citing health and family concerns. But he also mentioned that the conservative hate campaign had taken its toll.

So congrats to you and all your mob ....

Rob Oakeshott is my local member, love him or hate him (and I do neither) he has secured funding for an electorate (that was formerly held by the deputy prime minister in the Howard government) that is unprecedented. Local members who achieve this are usually applauded. And for those who may deride this, I would be surprised if you live in the electorate of Lyne, he made a commitment and stood by it. How many members in the major parties have made promises and let their electorate down by following the party line. From my perspective I will miss an independent member, when the state election happened and a National Party member elected we disappeared off the map. Good local man, easy to talk to, enjoy your next stage in life.

There is a G20 summit in August that I'm thinking Rudd might think it worthy of his attendance so I'm guessing the election won't be before then?

Wonder if he can go once the writs have been issued? If not then the election will be later. Rudd would go to the opening of an envelope if it involved an overseas trip. Maybe he should post here and tell us about CL. ;)
