There is this very cynical thought I am having.Hoping that Kevin Rudd actually wins the election. Then as the economy comes crashing down and the knives come out we see the demise of the ALP.:);):p

I'm certainly not hoping for that!! But I am a bit concerned that there are enough muppets in Australia that will actually believe the tripe that Rudd will peddle in the next couple of months

Only the psychopaths who think people should be working for a couple of bucks a day.

We all have to start somewhere.

I remember when I was a teenager, stacking shelves and washing dishes would earn me few dollars per hour cash. The earning gave me a sense of pride and help me learn the value of hard work and money.

Personally, I would prefer to see welfare recipients go out there and earn couple of bucks a day to supplement their income than go on Today Tonight complaining that welfare won't fund their new TV, their fifth child's new brace....

Spoken like a true Union man.
Never been in a union, nor am I ever likely to.

Bosses are the devil.
Not even remotely close to anything I've ever said.

Employers have a long and persistent history of exploiting and abusing their employees, particularly the weaker ones. Which does not, of course, mean they all do - but a Liberal Government will always do as little as possible to prevent it happening.

I think you'll find more employees exploit their employers with sickies and workers comp claims and a labour government will always make it difficult for employers to get rid of the bad employees maybe we need a government to bring back a sensible balance

Uh huh. And what year was that ?

So would I. But why are you picking out a ridiculous corner case and present that as representative of everyone on welfare ?

Of course they do. We strap our employees to the chair and not a comfort break in sight.

No, it won't.

Unless you know of some technology the whole comms industry does not, that's going to "outdate" fibre-teachers.

?

CSIRO have a new system that uses current TV aerials for Internet.. At least 80% as fast as NBN potential at a ridiculously cheap cost but no one is listening. CSIRO / Australia basically invented the web and we are ignoring another huge money spinner for this country while deling with petty politics. Come on Aussies.

Given the vast increase in profit share of GDP over the last couple of decades, and the decline in labor share, I think you're talking cough.

Employers haven't had it so good in living memory. Well, except maybe for those couple of years Howard basically gave them a free-for-all.

If that was the case then why are our education standards falling?

In Victoria, the decline could be blamed on Mother Russia (Joan Kirner) policy shifting from "Equal Opportunity" to "Equality of Outcome". "Equality of Outcome" sounded great, but it brought government schools down to the lowest common denominator... (That is my opinion... let the debate begin please, this is as important as part of Gonski - or whatever-new-name-Rudd-calls-it-now.)

If you look back decades back, classroom size were quite large compare to what it is today. But schools would separate students into various classes based on their abilities and strength. Top students tended to be in "class of their own", so were others... nowadays, if anyone dared to suggest segregating "smart" students from "lesser", there would be big outcry. Think about it, on average our Asian neighbors spend less on education than Australia. Their students are graded and divided.

All the talking of Gonski funding, but I fail to see how more $$$ would help improving education standard? What is the actual policy to improve the 3Rs? Not all students are University/Academic materials, but how will the policy harness those with tech (manual) skills?

Please, this is the sort of things that TA and Rudd must address not just "More Money to schools"....

You mean this ?

The CSIRO has done well in context, but it's not within a bull's roar of having "basically invented the web".

If this technology was viable surely some innovative entrepreneur would start utilising it to make a fortune?

Your post is somewhat misleading - here is a quote from the article:

The CSIRO claims it has found a way to transmit wireless broadband faster and up to four times more efficiently than existing technology.
It says the system, designed for towns of fewer than 1000 people, would enable households to upload and download data at speeds of 12 megabits a second.
The system would not work in areas with high population densities. ''We have designed something specifically for remote and rural areas,'' Dr Oppermann said. ''If you move to a metropolitan or dense area you do not get the line of sight.''

Gee that will be great !!! And I dont think the internet was invented by the CSIRO either !!!

Using the laws of physics, there is a limit of how much data can be transmitted via wireless means. Hence why you need cable, not copper and/or wireless.

12MBPS is certainly not 80% of NBN...

Ok. And with that statement it's clear you've no idea. In my living memory, and I'd hazard a guess its a little longer than yours, it has never been as hard as it is right now. Why do you think the Govts prediction of revenue was so out of wack? Not because the economy is steaming along!

Ice Ice Kevin!!!
