What "news website" are you talking about then? I'm possibly mistaken, but I'm guessing that there's more than just the one.

Only one with "news" in the lead URL. So wrong guess. And hence mistaken.

Channel Nine worm was pretty much in Rudd's favour.
Seven was well in Abbott's favour with Rudd getting into the 20's at some point.

Abbott did appear a lot less woffly from my viewpoint.
Anyhow onto the cricket.

"I... believe ...umm ...in ...you".

Flabbott (flap off Abbott).

Lol as opposed to Rudd who only believes in himself.

I thought it was a non event no big winner but more importantly no rabbit in the headlight moment for TA

It was funny when he did his big I believe in you finish and the camera stayed on him while he was fixed in a waxwork model pose for about 5 seconds

Abbott still thinks that asylum seekers are 'illegals'.

As does Rudd if his policy is to send all people arriving on boats to PNG and never to set foot on Australian soil. He just doesn't say it in words.

Actually he knows that they're not, but he does think that some Australians might be stupid enough to believe him if he keeps saying it.

I agree with Rudd - send them to the jungle and carry on like they never existed.

Well that was a waste of a debate. Rudd did his best Milhouse impression, Abbott tried hard not to do his usual dyslexic snake-oil salesman impression (and mostly pulled it off), but the questions from the panel were woeful! After one of them I was totally confused as to what the question was and who it was directed to, and I was relieved when Rudd was equally puzzled. Didn't someone think to vet the questions first???

We are the lucky country, aren't we.

Well, someone voted him in? Sorry, that was Gillard.....or was it Rudd - who cares?

That's his policy - vote for him = vote for his policies!

Shall we call it - the "Jungle Solution" Dump & Run......

Much easier to use "illegal" compared to the words "asylum seekers/ economic refugees supporting illegal people smugglers and corrupt Indonesian officials and with a death wish that often also causes innocent children to die"

Unfortunately with current global political issues there are 40m+ refugees plus a lot more economic refugees and due to our attractive social security Australia is an attractive country. We can afford to be generous but there does need to be a limit and I qould prefer a managed process where we can select the most at risk/ the most deserving rather than what is effectively Russian roulette for those with $$$s to their name.

You do realise that the bloke you are going to vote for is on the same page as that? Actually, he'd rather turn them back so they sink their own boats. Be proud if that when you vote.

It's impossible to isolate either side with regards to the safety of their asylum seeker programmes. So it is a non issue really. Rudd's plan is no better.

And how many asylum seekers have died under the ALP's management of the problem compared with the Coalition?

I'm not saying it is, I am pointing out that both parties have inhumane and, frankly, embarrassing policies designed to counter fear.

Amaroo needs to open the other eye.

I agree. The questions did not really draw anything out that we didn't already know. They both need to be put under a bit of pressure. I hope they do better at writing them for the next one. Or are there two more?

It's a much more efficient way to demonise them too, which is certainly a bonus.

I'm not saying it is, I am pointing out that both parties have inhumane and, frankly, embarrassing policies designed to pander to fear.

Amaroo needs to open the other eye.

So the answer is what? Let everyone in & give them a house & benefits
