Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

FWIW I don't take kindly to your stupid comment......why is it that the forces from the left always resort to using offensive language?

Lets your side down IMHO!

You may take offense at the phrasing but it's a straw man argument so not really relevant, is it?

Along with offensive language - I see you also like to leave major parts out of posts.....what, no reply on a new airport in Sydney????

Or are you more interested in a fast rail network that will only ever exist between the ears of one K Dudd!

I'm not talking about fast rail i am talking about all the urban rail projects that the coalition will cancel funding for and development of. Completely different subject.

Just to be clear the projects in question are ones like the Melbourne Metro rail link in Melbourne, the airport rail link in Perth, and the Moreton Bay rail link and Cross River rail in Brisbane. They are all transport projects supported by their (conservative) state governments and the only reason for not supporting them as far as i can tell is that Abbott, as a matter of principle, refuses to fund rail.

Surely, we should simply weight these projects up against the equivalent amount of $$ spent on roads and if it's a better deal do it. If it's not, fair enough.

I'll think you'll find there are rules on offensive posting! I've called you on it.....you've seen fit to carry it on.

I'm pretty sick & tired of people taking pot shots when their argument is weak or they have nothing left to contribute.....FWIW- the rules on posting are detailed below. A simple retraction will suffice!

Notwithstanding our Terms of Service and Rules these 4 Guidelines are a simple reminder of what is NOT PERMITTED on AFF:
* Using AFF for commercial purposes
* Posting obscene or offensive content
* Attacking/bullying/threatening other members

These Guidelines apply to postings on our public forums AND personal messages (PMs). Whilst we recognise that PM are private by definition, if the recipient feels that the writer has breached these Guidelines in the PM and elects to take the matter further, they may report the PM. If appropriate, action will then be taken against the offending party.

It wasn't my intention to attack you personally. I described something as a "stupid comparison" - it was intended entirely as a description of the argument and not as a personal attack. I don't think it's "obscene" but if you have taken offense that's your call and I apologise. I have removed the remark in question.

Back on topic: There are a number of urban rail and public transport projects that state conservative governments prioritise highly for infrastructure spending. It is a shame that there will not be a mechanism to consider the case for federal funding for them because they aren't roads. I'm not referring to pipe dreams of high speed rail just the stuff that states all over the country are working on right now.

Well, state governments run buses for the most part and the infrastructure they run on (roads) gets big Federal subsidies. As it stands Tony Abbott will pay for the roads they move on but not for rail even if it can be demonstrated it will move more people for less. Why not just invest on the basis of cost/benefit?

Not in QLD.Brissy busses are a council concern.

This is a quote from today's Canberra times. It sums up what I think about people thinking that TA's relationship with his daughters is creepy-
I'll tell you what's creepy: journalists and media taking an everyday comment from the probable next leader of our country about his daughters being "not bad-looking" and sexualising it like a pack of sticky schoolkids who can't watch a deodorant ad without sniggering.

How does this square with the Constitution, specifically s51?

A rather odd comment from Kevin Rudd:
He said there was "a bunch of folks in politics ''who are into what I describe as get squarism". "I'm just not designed that way. Life's too short," he said.
To my mind, the whole undermining Julia Gillard last election and spending three years to drag her down and get his old job back was all about "getting square" and entirely in keeping with his behaviour in other careers. Mark Latham gave his views earlier, describing Rudd as venturing into the realm of evil in a "jihad of revenge".

But wait, there's more gold:
Mr Rudd revealed that ''every decision I have made about what I do in life is one that I've worked through with our family''.
He works through personal decisions with his family, but when he wants to turn the NT into a special economic zone it comes as a surprise to Cabinet.

How does federal funding of schools, hospitals, environment laws, local roads, public works, agriculture and fishing, industrial relations laws, sport and recreation and about 1000 other things square with section 51? Exactly the same way. For many years federal governments of all stripes have stuck their head in state responsibilites either through funding or in some cases through taking over powers from the states.

Are you saying that Engineers affects public transport? That's just bizarre.

So the liberals wanted an Internet filter?

What else are are they hiding?

They don't want one Turnbull just said so unless its optional installation by parents on a kids computer. Surely you can't have a problem with that.

Quite a lot , I suspect , and who could blame them with the kind of toxic agenda's promulgated by the likes of the author of the above quote..
It's playing from the same instruction set as the really sick stuff attempting to undermine Abbot as a father.

Labor supporters seem to present as amoral and without shame.. pretty sad to see an org with such fine principles end up embracing such a sea of filth.

The new government will probably be like Newman... quietly getting on with cleaning up a huge mess and leaving the gutter talk to the intellectually bereft.

What is this (unhealthy) fascination with Abbott and his daughters. Rudd's daughter was in the cooking show and not a comment. So who exactly has the obsession here.

I watched the episode last night. He sat there and dribbled out those lines without even a hint of accepting that he has been on a crusade of destroying so that he can reclaim the spoils of the role. He has single handily crippled the labor party with his hatred, cunning and ruthless tactics......they will be better off without him come Sunday.

What was disgraceful was his rude rejection of the dessert that Ms Crabb made for him.......no doubt he didn't like the thought of having left over egg whites from the dessert she made for Tony.

Very rude behaviour!
