It was mentioned as a factor. The costs of doing business in Australia with the taxation structure, carbon tax and the like.

Maybe by Abbott. But isn't that the issue of him not reading the BHPB announcement, which said the carbon tax was not a factor?

And now the Greens have bailed. Not that it means anything as they've promised supply.

I see Billy's just delivered the kiss of death.... Cookies must be enabled. | The Australian

Of course they are behind her, where else do you deliver a stab in the back from, the favoured Labor way of getting promotions and sorting out successions.... If i was her i would want them where i could see them...

But anyway what a rabble they are reverting to, i love seeing them falling out and scheming how they can desert the sinking ship, hope the knife will get twisted in this lot for a bit yet, pay back for us having had to put up with them for all these years...

And as for the scumbag Greens, the unravelling of the alliance with those nutbags could probably only be a positive for any main stream party in Australia as long as supply will be guaranteed, but again i still love watching it disintegrate...

Oh how i'm hoping for an annihiltion like the Quensland and NSW state elections...

Charming! And I bet you vote too ....

Empty threats from the Greens.... its all just posturing and hot air.

If the Greens thought the ALP was that bad they would have blocked the legislation in the Senate. But they won't and never will, because that would be the end of the current government and would mean Abbott in the lodge. The greens extracted their promise of a Carbon Tax out of the ALP but may be now starting to realise that with a total anhilation of the ALP in the lower house and the senate possibly in store soon - they are just electioneering to hold the line and maintain some upper house seats, otherwise, if in the event that the coalition does get control of both houses, we could be kissing goodbye the MRRT the Climate Change Fund, maybe RET's and the Carbon Tax.

The Greens can make all the noises they want about the "bad" ALP but they know that support for the Greens has also been falling in the polls, and the electorate are starting to look at the examples of ALP/Green coalition governments like Tasmania and the current Federal Government (if perceptions about the economy and job security continue to be shaky) electors may not like what they see and give the Greens their marching orders off the cliff along with the ALP.

The greens are where the democrats were 10 years ago, now leaderless, directionless, losing their base and doomed. I feel more sorry for the democrats supporters, at least they had a party that was trying to keep the coughs honest.

Not just Labor. All parties do this - remember the troubles the Dems had when they were self-destructing.

Gillard is now in an impossible situation. Every backbencher in a marginal seat can see that they are out of a job come September. They are going to do anything, if they think that they can hang on. Maybe government is out of the question, but saving their jobs and those of their staff might still be possible. Not for Thommo and Slipper, of course.

Rudd has better numbers than Gillard. A lot better. Always has.

And while he sits back, dropping one-liners and smilers all over the television, poor Julia is fighting off the vultures. I could say that she has had really crud luck in timing and things like Thommo and Slipper, but I see this as expedient political "fixes" coming undone. She should have done things properly to stand up to scrutiny, rather than cobble together something that would keep the hounds off for another few moments.

Agreed. It isn't like they're going to side with Liberal. I do laugh at all their blustering and angst directed at Labor. As I'm sure does Labor. They are totally stuck between a rock and a hard place and they don't get it.
Hang on, didn't Gillard put a tax on hot air?

Skyring has a theory about people like you, but I've forgotten it already!
What, that injecting emotion into a political discussion just makes the ensuing conversation a pointless waste of time? :)

Bob Brown had his own views and he had a loyal constituency, because he delivered value for their votes and support. I usually disagreed with him on policies, but I could appreciate where he was coming from. He spoke from the heart, and I always value that.

Other behaviour, such as aiming for soundbites and misleading the voters, not telling the whole truth, or telling it in such a way as to give a contrary impression, I abhor.

The Greens have voted against a whole bunch of legislation in the Senate (and the house of reps) in this parliament.

Awww Moody, my comments not quite to your liking... So sad...

And yes i could vote if i wanted to but haven't the last few times...

If i thought there was any doubt that JG and Swanny and the rest were on the way out i probably would this time, but hopefully its going to be such a hammering that i won't need to bother...

As for Skyring, if you can't be bothered remembering it, i certainly can't be bothered searching for it... Will just have to be one of those things i'll always wonder about... Welll maybe the next 30 seconds or so anyway....

Well Christine Milne as leader of the Tasmanian greens in 1996 supported a minority Liberal goverment.

And as we've already discussed Tony Windsor supported a coalition government in NSW.

It usually means the longer the other side are out of power and the stronger the message sent to the ousted leader of just how much the country repudiated their leadership... The last time Labor was in the wilderness for a decent amount of time the country didn't seem to do too badly...

It will be up to Tony to lead sensibly....

I think the experience on both sides of politics is that it encourages corruption, unaccountability and ineptness. If a government doesn't feel like it risks losing the next election you generally get a very bad government.
