PER-SIN to return from June.

I would expect them to dedicate seats at the back to crew rest, possibly with curtains.

Ever seen the Y cabin in a 777, 787, A380 or 747? :) They're all 3 next to the windows.
I do agree that a 738 is quite small but I fear QFi have no other planes.

I can happily say no, I've never had to see that. Sounds horrible!

I'm always on narrowbody LCCs when 3 across.

True but QFi has no 777s or 787s (yet), they are phasing out the 747s, and no-one would suggest an A380 SIN-PER.
The A330s - which they do have - are 2-4-2, as were the much-missed 767s.

They have A330s. Maybe they should have kept some 767s.
But they had to go to allow an accounting trick with depreciation to provide a return to profit.

I think I suggested a while ago that if QF don't have enough A330s for daily PER-SIN, they should run 737s Monday to Friday and A330-200s Sat/Sunday. I'm fairly sure that "spare A330s in Perth over the weekend" was one of the reasons they originally wanted to try out the PER-AKL route, and is it happens, the weekend is most likely the most popular time to fly this route.

I think if the use a 738 on this route it is doomed to fail...unless they are price competitive with the LCCs.

I'm going up to Sin next week for a couple of days. SQ pretty chockers - so full that I actually can't choose my seat there or back. Have to get upon check in.

And this is with SQ having 4 x flights per day. J-class on the days and flights I wanted to fly was totally full.

The scoot dreamliner currently takes the cake for Per-Sin for me

A 73H on PER-SIN is really no different to a 73H on BNE-PER. Both have a flight time of about 5hr 30 min. A 332 is preferable but a 73H will be a start.

The biggest issue I see with a 73H service to SIN is the pilots. As no other QF 73H services operate to SIN, the pilots will need to stay in Singapore for more than a day every time and spare pilots will be difficult to get quickly if one is sick etc.

I would not sit longer than 2 hours on a narrowbody. Qf needs the a330 to be competitive on the Per-Sin sector.

QF stated that they could not make any money with the 332 before on PER-SIN. With the break in service, I cannot see how this would have changed (or it could be worse as all existing customers have now moved to SQ etc). It would be brave (or stupid) to do exactly the same thing again (using a 332) and to expect a different outcome.

Perhaps the timings had a lot to do with the lack of success - I mean a 1am and a 4am arrival into PER is bound to fail surely?

With the new 332/333 product surely it would put it ahead of SQ in terms of product quality?

Fiji Airways flys 737's mainly from MEL-NAN and I have done J on this before during a night flight, (approx 40mins less than PER-SIN) and it was perfectly adequate, sure not a flat bed but for a short flight like that is doable. Also the great FJ service and surprisingly good catering made them excellent flights.

The more consistent demand QF get on the 737 service (if and when it launches) will mean hopefully it would be upgraded to a bigger aircraft one would think in the future.. anyway lets see what happens!

Scoot is good. I would recommend you book the infant free cabin and bid for an upgrade works out cheaper

The ugly QF71/72 timings died when the QF/EK alliance came in (two years ago now according to the emails this morning). The remaining timings QF had before they pulled QF77/78 were about right and would most likely be adopted again if a service was reintroduced.

The biggest issue QF have on PER-SIN is no real onward connections in SIN. All of the competition (SQ and even 3K etc) can get you elsewhere into Asia but QF cannot get you anywhere. So this leaves QF only O&D traffic to fill a possible PER-SIN service.

I think QF are struggling to get the numbers to work even on a 73H, so although we all would like a to see a 332 return, it is not going to happen in the short term.

At the end of the day, now I have made to move to SQ/VA for PER-SIN travel, my main interest in getting QF back is to keep SQ honest in pricing, as sometimes they can get quite expensive, and/or they just have no seats available (even at four flights a day).

Whilst there is a lack of connections there are some that exist already namely QF codeshares on SIN-BOM, SIN-DEL, SIN-CMB, SIN-HEL then you also have airlines that have traditionally codeshared on QF's SIN-PER flights in the past (9W, BA, AY, MU to name a few) and likely if it started up again SL, EK, PG would likely (a guess based on routes/partnerships already in place) place their code on QF's flight too.

Time will tell :)

With the previous QF77/78 timings (departing SIN at 19:25) QF should be able to fill a 737 on OW connections alone!

BA, (x2), AY, CX (multiple), QR, MH, JL all have arrivals in the 3.5 hr - 1.0hr window prior to the departure. This issue is more the empty QFv77 flying north with only CX and MH offering outbound connections through the alliance.

BD

I used to see some QF operated flights out of SIN with 12 marketing codes on them.
