PER-SIN to return from June.

I used to see some QF operated flights out of SIN with 12 marketing codes on them.

Yes that's true, there used to be a lot more some have dropped off over the last 2 years especially since EK partnership, AF was dropped from memory.
Current list of QF36 SIN-MEL codeshares from the QF flight status page:
BA7402
JL7891
AY5013
9W4010
EK5036
MU844

True but QFi has no 777s or 787s (yet), they are phasing out the 747s, and no-one would suggest an A380 SIN-PER.
The A330s - which they do have - are 2-4-2, as were the much-missed 767s.
My point was more to do with the OP stating that they couldn't accept a 3-X-3 layout but I was explaining that's it's the norm, than with QFi specifically. In fact, the A330, 767 (RIP) and A340s (none in QF fleet) were the only current aircraft with 2-x-2 layouts.
They have A330s. Maybe they should have kept some 767s.
But they had to go to allow an accounting trick with depreciation to provide a return to profit.
Spare A330s, though? Especially when they're loosing a few to upgrade them.
I agree that maybe the 767 and even some of the older 744s could have been kept around but I guess they're now incredibly inefficient. And you're probably right about a clever accounting measure too. :)

With the previous QF77/78 timings (departing SIN at 19:25) QF should be able to fill a 737 on OW connections alone!

BA, (x2), AY, CX (multiple), QR, MH, JL all have arrivals in the 3.5 hr - 1.0hr window prior to the departure. This issue is more the empty QFv77 flying north with only CX and MH offering outbound connections through the alliance.

BD

With QF only nominally in OW, how many of these airlines will actually route their passengers via QF to PER? Most do not even codeshare on current QF services (CX,MH,QR etc) making it even more remote.

If you want to go to HKG (and onwards), you can fly direct on CX. If you want to go to KUL (and onwards), you can fly direct on MH. Same with DOH direct on QR. Very few CX, MH and QR passengers will use a SIN connection to PER.

BA is now tied up with CX (you can codeshare LHR-PER now if you want), so they would not actively promote a SIN connection over a HKG connection (both are one stop and similar flight times overall) and QF would not promote a QF/BA flight via SIN to LHR at all (over EK).

So you would be left with AY, JL and some non-OW Chinese and Indian airlines. It would be interesting to know exact numbers, but I assume that you would be lucky to get 30 through ticketed passengers a flight. That is still 138 seats to fill for PER-SIN O&D even on a 73H.

QF codeshares out of SIN (not counting 3K),

JL: HND, NRT
UL: CMB
9W: BOM, DEL
EK: DXB, CMB
MU: PVG
PG: USM
AY: HEL

... and - incidentally - BA codeshare on QF ex-SIN to BNE, SYD and MEL. EK offer DXB ex MEL via BKK - I'm sure there's a market for non-direct flights, too.

Not that you have to codeshare in order to sell tickets on someone else's services.

I bit the bullet this week and flew SQ to SIN from Per, booked over 2 weeks ago and struggled to get seats, when we boarded the plane didn't have a spare seat, is the same comming back FULL again $710 ret.

Yes SQ are laughing - economy fare (changeable) now $1100 out of school hols.....

Crazy!

For comparison, a PER-BNE return fare on QF is $1230.00 in the lowest flexible booking class and the PER-BNE sector is only 2244nm vs 2420nm for PER-SIN. The cheapest non-sale fare is still $630.00 rtn on QF for PER-BNE. I am looking at a return flight in late August PER-BNE and QF want almost $800.00 booking now (five months away) for my particular flights.

Some of my upcoming SQ flights appear expensive but compared to some of my upcoming QF domestic flights, they are not too bad. I think it has to do with SQ not using one way pricing (2 x $450 sectors looks better than $900).

you are comparing completely different markets/flight segments.. all airlines price on a supply v demand model to each market/flight..even time of day of a flight sector can influence prices on the same airline

While I suspect that the following would upset EK no end, it actually would not conflict with any reasonable routing involving EK at the moment. And might actually offer QF a chance to have EK passengers want to fly on a QF plane.

PER-SIN-KMG-SIN-KMG

PER-SIN is 5.5 hours SIN-KMG should be less than 4, with 4-6 hours allowed for four turn-a-rounds. So one 737-800 should be about to do the tag 5 or 6 days a week, allowing for maintenance to be completed in SIN on the non-tag days. Or daily if the 738 is swapped in PER.

Well, there are rumors QF wants to open China - Australia routes :cool: And it offers a daily utilization of 18 hours.

Happy wandering

Fred
Just make sure that the (in and out) KMG flights tie in SIN with the QF flights from the eastern states as well.

Re: QF to resume PER-SIN flights

5hrs in a leaky boat xx 737, 5hrs in a 737
Nothing to it 737

with deference to the Kiwis.

At least the Westralians can;t complain they don't have any QF international flights

QF to resume PER-SIN flights

Brilliant to see QF back on the international arrivals board! Now let's hope they use the BSI birds and it is popular enough to get an A332 / A333 soon!

Spotted a very high A330 above MEL a few Saturdays ago so pulled up FlightRadar24 to discover it was QF112 ... on it's way west .... must have hit someone's Arrival Board at some time ...

Bugger - now I can't complain. I'll have to complain about it being a substandard service instead. Oh how I miss those halycon days of a Mk 1 skybed on the PER-SIN A333...

Re: QF to resume PER-SIN flights

Would that be the case if we had an F lounge? :) Or is that more because of the direction you are headed?

F lounge in PER - you're dreamin'.

I'll do it whatever direction I'm headed - but it's all leisure travel, so I have all the time in the world.

Re: QF to resume PER-SIN flights

Good to hear. Today a 737. Tomorrow an A330? Or a 787?

Still beats Virgin's 737 to HKT?
