So the next national cabinet meeting is this Friday. If I remember correctly, last time they were working on a traffic light system and home quarantine for low risk countries.

What's the bet that they actually have not done anything about it and are just 'discussing' again

The problem with National Cabinet functioning properly is QLD and WA.

All the rest of the states seem relatively aligned but it is hard to do anything meaningful with these two floundering around by themselves, QLD especially because of its economic and social integration with VIC and NSW. The nation could probably live without WA participating to be honest and the Federal Government has indicated they care less about WA - in that respect.

Apparently the rumours are that Dan Andrews is being asked to try and bring WA and QLD into the tent now VIC is well under control and he has the time to do some more work in this space...... And Brett Sutton (VIC CHO) also had a meeting with our QLD CHO.... So maybe with VIC back in the picture acting as a diplomat to calm the waters we may see some more positive steps.

The cynical would say Qld worked with Vic to understand their numbers and get assurance to open borders (remove quarantine requirement) a la AcT

Thats a bit of a kick in the guts to Australians stuck overseas. Also seems a bit odd that we’re bringing in foreigners to do a job here when so many locals are out of work.

The problem is fruit and veggie picking is a job most locals don't want to do.And that is happening now all around Australia.

The UK had similar - went on a big recruitment drive and just failed. Plus it's actually a fairly skilled job, so lots of training required to actually be any good at it etc. In the end they still had to import a lot of workers to meet demand.

The early analysis looked at just 94 infections recorded so far in a study that has enrolled nearly 44,000 people

'Just extraordinary': Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine trial shows early success

Experts are optimistic after the initial results show the vaccine could be 90 per cent effective in stopping coronavirus transmission, but more work needs to be done in the trial.

But they need 164 COVID infections to finalise the Phase 3 trial efficiacy percentage, so they need another 70 infections. As I understand, if they get 164 COVID infections, and for example 16 infections amongst vaccinated, and remaining 148 infected had placebo, 148/164 = 90% efficiacy level. In my opinion this should be backed up by challenge trials after to confirm this number is real.
