Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

We were commenting the other day as to whether there is a best option. If not planning to leave Australia then it seems that the Oxford one would be best but If travelling to a country currently being decimated then possibly one of the other two.

A very simple example is economics. Politicians don't seem to understand the key principle that the virus needs to be shut down for the economy to return to normal. If you keep making decisions where you're trying to think of the economy first, it doesn't make sense because the virus will continue its rampage and the economy will end up being screwed anyway - a perfect example is the UK.

This is the approach taken by Federal and State governments in Australia... so why is there so much angst from business?

Ok husband has booked a rewards flight for September. With one Qantas flight leg within it
Taking a rewards with , fortunate , low tax cost and points. So if all continues to be custard and international flights arent happening....not a huge cost if all is lost

Interesting going back and reading the first few pages of this thread and the predictions to now reality!

Yeah. Still thinking best case beginning of 2022, worst case end of 2022. Now thinking cargo freighter out of Singapore to Europe mid 2022. Something different, slow and time to myself.

Thing is, no ones going to travel for holiday anyway if quarantine remains. And 14 day quarantine will remain even for vaccinated travellers. It will remain until majority of the population has been vaccinated.

I've got 5.5 weeks off beginning of September. My hope is A) I have had my two shots prior to then, and B) best case I reckon, 'they' as part of carrot to get vaccinations happening, amend quarantine from current 14 day HQ to maybe 7 day home based with test on arrival and at Day 7. I could live with that. As for 14 days HQ - STUFF THAT.

I've neglected this thread as its just too depressing reading about all of the projections. I too have prepared myself for no international travel until at least some time in 2022. I can't believe QF has even started accepting customers for international travel. I wonder if the supposed travel bubbles to NZ, Japan, Taiwan, etc will actually eventuate.

My 'reserve' big adventure is planned for July 2022, very much more likely than Sept this year. Be good to travel both times though. Domestic does nothing for me, may as well stay at home and work. Only oversea's allow me to switch off and escape family and work.

No travel bubbles will ever occur. Opening to those countries you listed may be based on limited risk, maybe sometime in 2021, maybe..

I can't see it myself either. With state borders being shut over a few cases without a moments notice makes me believe Australia's state and federal governments would never feel comfortable opening up to other countries. I wonder how many airlines will be left by the end of this drama...

Well I am already searching....

Me too! But then I thought... hey wait... maybe a DSC coming?

I'm not sure why QF has done this. I see the potential in some travel bubbles by the end of this year at best.

Perhaps QF has an inside scoop somehow? To reopen bookings from July is a pretty big step, and i guess they will soon need to start bringing planes back and getting crews up to competency. you probably don't want to do any of those things unless you think it might be a good chance.

Maybe Minister Hunt's 'under promise and overdeliver' is really that? And it probably means a fair proportion of 'regular' folk will also be vaccinated by then as well... those in aged care aren't likely to fill all your planes!

I really hope QF knows something we don't. I would be over the moon if I could travel back to Aus to see family mid-year. I'm happy to do up to 5 days in hotel quarantine if I absolutely must. Any more than that is just too much.

I just don't see how this is physically possible - unless the government has changed its position and views on the severity of the virus.
