Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

time stamp should take you direct to the question:
"has qantas given people false hope to australians by suggesting we could travel overseas by christmas?"

What really s$$$$ me is that reporters don't actually ask the right questions. The PM said at 80% Aussies can leave and come back, but there are two glaring points no journalist seems to be competent enough to ask:

1. When Aussies do come back to Australia, what is the arrangement? Is it home quarantine? Moreover, how long is that quarantine?

2. Will Aussies who are not currently residing in Australia be allowed back?

These are two really important points.

I fear the states will dictate this more so than the Commonwealth will

reporters don't actually ask the right questions.
It was the last question at the press conference.

Sadly, with the lofty targets that have been set we are some months away from reaching the target. As we get closer the journalists will eventually give it more attention.

Surely National Cabinet must have discussed this issue if they have already agreed on 80%. And transparency on this will out the rebel states.

Got this from The Age website
Data from covidlive.com.au shows, at current rates, Victoria will achieve 80 per cent of first doses by October 15 and 80 per cent second doses on November 17. The same targets are projected to be hit by NSW on September 10 and November 4.
The article highlights Vic Government in talks with Federal Government for more Pfizer shots and considering paying GPS for weekend shots (apparently NSW GP program is way ahead of VIC GP program).

If WA isn’t planning on opening until Australia is COVID free (which might happen in maybe 10-20 years or never) and they have Pfizer vaccinations not being used maybe some of their future Pfizer shots can come to the States using them?

I don’t want to take shots from anyone using them but if they aren’t then give them to others who are. Since Vic Government opened state hubs for 16-39s first for AZ and especially this week for Pfizer lines have been crazy long.

I live near Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre and walk past there almost everyday and it’s had mass crowds last few weeks.

Ayushsmity’s post above shows both NSW and VIC are connitted to National re opening plan so Fed Gov should support them as much as possible to make it happen.

As per my earlier post prediction this will lead to NSW opening first followed 2-4 weeks later VIC. Once you have the biggest states (via population) opened to international travel and they are both a LNP and ALP Governments the others will eventually have to fall in line.

I’ve done my small part convincing many family and friends to get vaccinated and I’m working on others interstate.

December reopening of international borders is possible. It might have restrictions like only vaccinated and home quarantine but it’s a start.

NSW Government’s school reopening and their slight relaxed rules for vaccinated is first real signs of the new world. Let’s get NSW and VIC to the dates above and the rest will quickly follow.

Safe (and soon) travels everyone.

So it looks like when we come back into Australia in May 2022 it will be via SYD and on to SA for a 2 week holiday before returning to QLD.

The Tasmanian decision I was half expecting as talking to patients about getting the jab they, even if disagreeing with the anti vaxxers, still expressed an opinion that they didn't want covid on their island.c'est la vie.

..and thank you for a measured factual and respectful post👍

The higher he perches himself on that hill, the harder he will fall when it all comes crashing down, I fear.
There is no effective opposition so it will need to be a people rebellion. SA intent on opening up with the plan and was able to start opening up to younger people much earlier than the east. Suspect supplies have been bolstered here too. If current trends here continue it is expected that 80% will be vaccinated by late November.

Basically he’s also put the handbrake on the already crushingly slow, worst in Australia vaccine rollout as well. Has basically said to the WA population no rush to get vaccinated as not opening until… whenever.

But the problem is that covid will worm it’s way in again and when people start dying in WA because they aren’t vaccinated it will be on his hands.

Friend of mine has adopted this approach and won't be told otherwise. "No covid here and McGowan won't let it in, why rush, I'll get it when i have to but not before"

Would be cute if not so naive

I had to laugh at him being surprised that QF is now talking Darwin. What did he expect? It’s the only logical outcome.

Because these days, people seem to expect to be able to make a decision but don't expect any consequences nor accountability. It's a growing and worrying trend.

“....when I have to but not before” could be 3-6 weeks too late.

Oh well.
There seems to be a total lack of awareness that if there is an outbreak, then every other person will be thinking the same thing then there will be complaints when they can't be vaccinated immediately but have to join a long line of similar minded people. And if AZ, wait for several weeks before full protection.

The thing that will bite will be lack of overseas travel to places like Thailand, Bali and Singapore

They can say goodbye to their tourism industry then.

Also lots and lots of older Tasmanians have younger adult children in Melbourne and Sydney and it’ll be interesting if they want to keep those parents from seeing their children. I’m one of those younger children as my parents retired there. I’ll be explaining to my mum why I can’t come for Christmas. My mum will then be in the local members office in Launceston telling them exactly what she thinks.

It’s not just QF.

If Sydney and Melbourne open up with home quarantine or other minimal restrictions I expect lots of airlines to withdraw from “hermit states” to focus on serving the open ports. Why would you fly a close to empty 777 to Perth when you redeploy it to a city that might make you some pax and freight revenue? The rest of the world is opening up and the aircraft will make more money redeployed elsewhere.
